Sunday Post / It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Date.

Good Evening, Everyone!

I would like to thank everyone for their encouraging comments last week!!! Probably many of you spent the weekend watching the Avengers Endgame movie that made over $1.2 billion. I'm a Marvel fan, but I'll see the movie only if it plays at the one-screen theater in my hometown. I'm guessing it won't be playing there until at least the middle of May. It's been storming all afternoon and I've been bored to death. At least I have the American Gods finale and 85-minute Game of Thrones episode to look forward to tonight.

What Am I Currently Reading?

Thanks to my allergies (eyes watering and headaches), I had a bit of trouble trying to read last week, so I'm still reading The Tinderbox by Beverly Lewis, which I'm hoping I can finish it sometime on Monday. Next, I'm going to be reading N0S4A2 by Joe Hill that I had just checked out at the library yesterday. The television series based on the book will debut on AMC this summer.

Happy Easter, Everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well on this Easter morning!!!! I'm doing alright today; though I have been battling a bit of depression that suddenly crept back into my life last month; resulting in many difficult days where I could barely get out bed and function. Don't worry, I'm trying my best to deal with it.

If anyone has noticed, I didn't participate in last week's Sunday Post and It's Monday! What Are You Readng?. Well, I do have a good excuse. I spent most of last weekend binge watching the ninth season of Shameless on Showtime On Demand. I had watched the previous seasons on Netflix last year. Showtime was having a free "Watchathon" for a few days, so I watched the latest season of Shameless. Plus, I was busy last Sunday night watching American Gods and Game of Thrones.

What Am I Currently Reading?

Next, I'll probably be reading The Tinderbox by Beverly Lewis, which arrived in the mail a few days ago. From the blurb, I'm taking a guess that it's a standalone novel. I'm also planning on reading the eBook "Dying for Devil's Food" by Jenn McKinlay.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I've been wanting to reread Stephen King's Pet Sematary for awhile now, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Today I finished reading The Memory House by Rachel Hauck (my review will be posted tomorrow), so my next read will be Pet Sematary!!!

Good Morning, Everyone!

Don't you hate it when the doorbell rings when you're in the bathroom! That's exactly what happened to me this morning. I was in the middle of buzzing my head before I was going to take a shower when suddenly I heard the doorbell ring. I wasn't about to go to the door with half shaved head, so I just continued buzzing. Afterward, I found a package door tag slip on the front door from FedEx, which marks the first time in history FedEx has showed up at my house before noon! I was supposed to sign for a package tomorrow, but for some reason FedEx decided to deliver it a day early. No biggie, FedEx will redeliver the package tomorrow.

My reading and blogging plans last week didn't occur. I spent my last Monday afternoon putting canvas pictures on the walls of my grandma's room at the nursing home. Plus, I brought over more of her belongings. Grandma wasn't  feeling well when I visited on Wednesday. On Thursday morning, instead of using her call button, she attempted to transfer herself from her wheelchair to the toilet and fell. The good news is she didn't break anything. There's alarm on her wheelchair, so the nurses were in her room quickly. Later in the day, she was sent to the emergency room as one of the aids noticed she wasn't acting right. It turns out that grandma's white cell count was high due to an infection. She's spent the weekend in the hospital and is supposed to be released back to the nursing home sometime today.

What Am I Currently Reading?

Sometime this week I'll be reading A Justified Murder by Jude Deveraux. It's the second novel in the Meldar Mystery series.

Good Morning, Everyone!

What Am I Currently Reading?

Last week wasn't a good week for me; well, at least it was a bad week for reading. I've only had time to read a few pages in the thriller The Lost Night by Andrea Bratz. I do like what little I have read so far. I spent the majority of my free time boxing more my grandmother's belongings from her apartment this week. The storage unit wasn't available until Friday afternoon. It's a little smaller than what I thought it would be, but it'll have to do for now. Despite the freezing rain yesterday, we (my mother & me) did get all of the bookshelves and all of the boxed "fragile" items into storage. The weather is supposed to be better today, so we're planning on moving all of the furniture today. We borrowed a dolly from a relative and we have another relative who is going to help. Plus, my dad will be helping as well. He would've helped yesterday, but with all the boxes in the way only two people can maneuver inside my grandma's apartment. If there's time this afternoon, we're going to move a cabinet/bookshelf, nightstand, a magazine rack, and a small shelf to my grandma's room at the nursing home.

I hate this cold weather! I've been sick most of the week with another cold and sore throat. And to top it off, I now have a cold sore! So, I'm guessing being in and out and of the rain yesterday didn't help me any. I'm temporary back on caffeine! And, no, this isn't the reason why I have a cold sore. I already had it before I added the caffeine back into my life. I'm overexerting myself and I need an extra boost from caffeine to get me through this weekend. Once we get my grandma's stuff out of her apartment, then I can relax and switch back to decaf.

UPDATE: Just a few minutes after posting this, I was informed my grandmother either had a seizure or a light stroke earlier this morning. She's prone to seizures (or what she refers as "spells"), but hasn't had one in very long time.

UPDATE: It was a light seizure. Grandma seems to be doing alright!

UPDATE (6:50 PM): A little update on my grandmother. She was a bit loopy after her seizure, so they ended up sending her to a hospital in the city. The doctors think her seizure medicine was too high of a doze and caused the seizure. She might be released back the nursing home sometime tomorrow. On a side note, we moved all of my grandma's furniture to the storage unit. However, we didn't take the tall bookshelf, nightstand, or magazine rack to the nursing home since my grandmother wasn't there at the time. So the plan is take the furniture to her room on Tuesday. There's a few things left in her apartment that we'll pick up tomorrow. Then we'll clean the apartment on Wednesday.

UPDATE (Monday 11:30 PM): My grandma is still in the hospital. She had a cold at the end of the last week. She had a fever today and a really bad cough. After a few tests, she has been diagnosed with pneumonia! She will be in the hospital for awhile. If everything goes as planned, I'll be visiting her on Thursday. As for my grandmother's apartment, we finished moving everything out of it today; though we didn't take any furniture to her nursing home room. Instead we put everything in storage for the time being.

UPDATE (Wednesday): If everything goes as planned, my grandmother will be released from the hospital sometime tomorrow.

Good Afternoon, Everyone!

I took a slight break from writing reviews last week, but I should be returning to the world of blogging this week with several planned reviews. When I say planned, it means I haven't written them yet!

Thanks to the bad weather last week, we didn't get any more packing done at my grandma's apartment, except for the little bit we did yesterday afternoon. We're at a point where's there's no more room to stack boxes. My aunt did get a storage unit, but it won't be available until maybe Wednesday.

What Am I Currently Reading?

Thanks to a snowstorm, I had the extra time to finish reading The Passage, as well as its sequel The Twelve and The City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin. I'll be posting reviews for them sometime this week. As for my next read, it'll be the thriller The Lost Night by Andrea Bratz.

Good Evening, Everyone!

This past week sucked!!! The weather has been horrible with a few ice storms. Just as my cold/sore throat was finally gone, I caught the flu bug. The only good news is that I finally got some much needed sleep; many thanks to my electric blanket.

My grandma fell again a few days ago. Instead of using the call button to get help, she decided to scoot herself to the foot of the bed, where she slipped off and fell to the floor. She was taken to the medical clinic for an x-ray. Nothing is broken, but she does have a pulled muscle in her leg. Due to the weather nobody could get to the nursing home this week, so she was a little upset today (Saturday) at us. My mother told her to stay in the wheelchair! Don't get up! Use the call button for help! Then my grandmother tried to change the subject, which is a bad habit of hers for the last six months or so. I spent most of today (Saturday) helping my mother box up some of my grandma's things. We'll be there again tomorrow, but I don't know how much packing we can get done as we're running out of boxes. My aunt is supposed to be getting the storage unit on Tuesday.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I'm taking a guess that I'm still reading The Passage by Justin Crown. Remember, I'm writing this on post on Saturday at about 5 o'clock in the evening and I'm currently on page 387. At the rate I've been reading, I might have this book read by Sunday morning or somewhere close to it. Then I'll start reading The Twelve and The City of Mirrors, which both are under 600 pages with bigger print.

What Am I Currently Reading?

My reading plans for last week didn't go as planned. I just started reading The Passage a few days ago and I'm still reading the anthology Flight or Fright. However, I did read the eBook The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jamie Jo Wright. Then I went back and reread The Making of Mrs. Hale by Carolyn Miller, which I had originally read in early December. When I went to write the review for it, I couldn't remember anything about it. With everything that was going on in December, I guess my mind wasn't really focused on the story. I will be writing my reviews for the eBooks in the next few days. My plan for this week is to finish reading both The Passage and Flight or Fright, and then begin reading The Twelve (book two in the Passage trilogy).

Good Afternoon, Morning!

Wow! I'm actually going to get my Sunday Post posted actually on a Sunday morning for once! For now on, I'm going to include this post as my It's Monday! What Are You Reading? weekly post as well.

Besides for having a sore throat and a head cold, I'm doing alright this morning. My insomnia issue still comes and goes each week, though if I read a printed book for an hour or so before bedtime, I am able to fall asleep.

Here's a little update on my grandmother. Her doctor put her on some kind of medicine (I don't know what it's called.) for dementia and she seems to be back to her normal self. However, there were a few incidents where she got up from bed by herself without using the call button. She's upset with the nurses because they told her she needs to be more "responsible" and use the call button. My mom has had a conversation about her staying in the nursing home. If her walking improves in six-months, a year, or more, then maybe she can live on her own again. Until then, we've gotten rid of her phone and cable services in her apartment. We're looking into getting a storage unit, so we can move all of her belongings out of her apartment next month. Once her insurance will no longer pay for her stay at the nursing home, then she'll move in permanently. Then we can figure out what furniture can fit into her room. Just in case she can live on her own in the near future, we're going to keep all of her other stuff in storage.

Also, we had to buy her another cell phone. We've gotten her two pre-paid cells in the last two years and she never could figure out how to use them. This time, I purchased a cheap flip-phone at a Dollar General Store, as I didn't believe she would actually use it. To my surprise, she has used the phone three times this week. The only problem is that we'll have to buy more minutes for her phone, though "other relatives" claim they will send her money for it. We'll have to see what happens.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I pushed myself to finish reading Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, which was 700+ pages. You can find my review link for it down below in this post. Yesterday, I finished reading The Silhouette Girl by V.C. Andrews (a.k.a. - the ghostwriter). I'll be writing my review for it sometime today and it'll be posted tomorrow.

I have my bookmark placed inside the massive science fiction/horror novel The Passage and I'll be begin reading it today. Additionally, I've already been reading the anthology Flight or Fright: 17 Turbulent Tales. I guess you can say I'm going to be multitask-reading (Is that a word?) this week, as I'm also going to read the eBook The Curse of Misty Wayfair by Jamie Jo Wright.

Good Afternoon, Everyone!

I had planned on having my Sunday Post published yesterday, but my internet (a.k.a. Mediacom) was having a lot of issues  and I couldn't sign into my blog until this morning.

My maternal grandmother had hip surgery for a second time (Same hip!) last Monday. She was released from the hospital and sent back to the nursing home for "skilled nursing" on Thursday. The nurses couldn't figure out why the hospital released her so soon. It probably had something to so with the "big" snowstorm that we were supposed to have gotten. However, the snowstorm never occurred here!

What Am I Currently Reading?

I'm finally getting around to reading Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin! As I am writing this, I'm on page 504, which means I have about 200 pages left to read. I'll attempt to finish reading it today.

Sunday Post / It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @  Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Date.

Good Morning, Everyone!

I was hoping 2019 would be better than 2018, so far it hasn't been that great. On December 31st, I decided to start working out again, which has involved 6 days of lifting weights. I've been doing these workouts at night, but I've been wanting to move them to the mornings, so I can add a 30-minute cardio routine afterwards. However, within a few days of exercising, "insomnia" sneaked into my life. I thought the cause might have been from my extra cup of coffee in the afternoons, so I eliminated it. Well, it didn't help a bit, so I've switched to decaffeinated coffee. That didn't work either! I still have insomnia throughout the night! I believe it has something to do with my workouts being at night, which is increasing my cortisol levels (a.k.a. - the stress hormone). Today is "legs day," so I'm going to do my workout as soon as I finish this post.

My grandmother was moved to the "skilled nursing" at the local nursing home. She can be there up to 69 days. Then we have to make a decision whether or not to put in here in the nursing home permanently or let her go back home. Last night, she fell while trying to get to the bathroom while using her walker. She seemed to be fine after the fall. However, she fell again this morning while trying to reach for a brush. Instead of pushing the call button for help, which she has been told to do, she thought she could do it herself. She broke her right hip again!! She's been sent to Liberty Hospital, where she's going to have to have surgery today or tomorrow.

My parents and me are the only ones that really takes care of my grandmother. My aunt, who is only six years older than me, her husband, and her brother (who I've disowned years ago) only visited my grandmother once in the hospital after she had hip surgery the first time last month. They didn't even send her a Christmas card! My other aunt lives three to four hours south of here and she has visited my grandmother a few times. However, my cousins who live in the next county made no attempt to visit.

The weather is really bad here with nearly 10 inches of snow on the ground. Here's a little unknown fact about - I don't drive!! Unless, I hitch a ride with somebody else to the city, I'm not going to the hospital. My parents are headed to the hospital as I'm writing this. They'll text me when the know something. My mom hates driving in bad weather (especially on the highway) and my dad can't ask for any more days off from work. Either my aunt and uncle has to step up and help out or my grandmother will have to be by herself in the hospital this week.

I'm hoping the doctors runs tests to see if my grandmother has Alzheimers. I know she has dementia that's getting worse. It was recommended that we take her to a neurologist once she was on back on her feet. However, she's never going to be her old herself. At the rate she's going, she'll end up in a wheelchair. Also, she's very stubborn. She doesn't listen to the physical therapists. They try to teach her the proper way of grabbing for things while using her walker, but she believes they are wrong. She does things her way and ends up back in the hospital.

Worrying about my grandmother is probably another cause of my insomnia.

What Am I Currently Reading?

My original intention was to read Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin last week, but that didn't happen. I didn't have very much free time to read; though I should have gotten up and read the book at night instead of tossing and turning when I couldn't sleep. I was sent a copy of Ashes in the Snow by Ruta Sepetys and I read 108 pages yesterday. I'm determined to finish reading it today! Then I'm going to read Who I Am with You by Robin Lee Hatcher, as my review for it is due on the 17th! After I get done with those two books, then I'll put my full attention on Fire & Blood, which I really do want to read!
