Review - Where I Belong by Mary Downing Hahn

Where I Belong
by Mary Downing Hahn

Pub. Date: September 2, 2014
ISBN: 978-0544230200
Pages: 240

Review:

One of the best children book authors is Mary Downing Hahn. The first book I read by her was Closed For The Season a couple of years ago. Now everytime I come across one of her older titles at a thrift store, I make sure to buy it.

Her newest book Where I Belong was published last spring and centers on Brendan Doyle, an unpopular young man who doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of his classmates. He is bullied everyday and he is treated poorly by his foster-mother and teachers.

Brendan distracts himself by hiding in books and takes many hobbies, including carving and drawing. He is basically a daydreamer looking for a way to escape his life. While walking in the woods, he comes across a man and he comes to conclusion that this man is the magical Green Man, the guardian spirit of the forest.

Review - The Doll Graveyard

The Doll Graveyard
Hauntings Series
by Lois Ruby
Publisher: Scholastic
Pub. Date: June 14, 2014
ISBN: 978-0545617864
Pages: 256
Buy Link: Amazon

Review:

I have always preferred reading printed novels over eBooks, which is probably one of the reasons why I had forgotten this children book was on my Kindle until I stumbled upon it last week.

The Doll Graveyard is written by Lois Ruby and centers on Shelby and Brian Tate, whom have just moved into the Cinder Creek house. This isn't just an ordinary house as the kids start to believe it is haunted. Strange cries can be heard throughout the night and objects suddenly move on their own.

All of this probably has something to do with the fact that there is a graveyard in their backyard. The oddest thing about the graves is that they are extremely tiny, as if the graves were meant for dolls.

Garcinia Cambogia 80% HCA Review

Almost everyone wishes that there would be a magic pill that will instantly let you drop weight, but in reality there is no such thing. However, many dietary supplements have become popular due to Dr. Oz endorsing them on his talk show. There has been some controversy to whether the supplement actually works or not, though some people do claim that it is a great weight loss supplement and fat burner.

A few days ago, I was sent a 60 capsules bottle of Garcinia Cambogia 80% HCA from Rami Naturals. It is is suppose to help increase weight loss, reduce fat cells, increase energy levels and boost metabolism. It helps produce more glycogen which will raise metabolism that will eventually help burn body fat. Unlike some brands, there haven't been any side effects reported for this Garcinia Cambogia.

The ingredients include:

Calcium Carbonate
Potassium Chloride
Chromium
Garcinia Cambogia Extract Complex
w/80% HCA (hydroxycitric Acid)

Mighty Bright Recharge LED Booklight Review

I'm positive that almost every bookworm has one or two book lights around their nightstand. And most likely they probably either received it as a gift or they received it as a freebie when they had ordered a book. I have several of the these book lights on my nightstand. Some of them are very cheap made, but a few others are pretty decent.

Now available to own is the Mighty Bright is the Recharge LED Booklight. Yes, I said it is rechargeable!

I'm sure many of you have gotten a little upset when your booklight's batteries went dead and not all of us keeps extra AAA batteries on hand. The Mighty Bright Recharge LED Booklight has two bright LED lights. It has two different settings - Low and High. On Low the battery will last 16 hours and on High the battery will last 13 hours. The booklight comes with a Micro USB recharging cable, which you can attach to your laptop or desktop to recharge the booklight. The recharge time is only 1 hour!

The booklight comes in purple, teal, blue, white and black. The LED will last up to 100,000 hours, so basically you'll never have to replace it. I'm sure many people picked losing weight as their New Year's Resolution. While some people can drop pounds quickly, others struggle with it. This is where dietary supplements can come in handy. Yes, I'm well aware that popping a pill isn't a magic cure. You need a healthy eating habit and exercise several times a week for any supplement to work correctly. Though just because one supplement works wonders for one person doesn't mean it will for someone else as everyone's body is different.

I was sent a bottle of Full-Time Energy Premium Garcinia Cambogia last week. You have probably heard about Garcinia Cambogia on the news as there has been a bit of a controversy on whether or not the supplement actually helps someone lose weight ever since it was endorsed by Dr. Oz.

The ingredients are:

Niacin (as niacinamide)

Joyal Beauty Hyaluronic Acid Serum-100% Pure! Review

As part of my "A New Me In 2015" theme here on my blog, I have been reviewing many different beauty products that would appeal to both men and women.

I received a 1 fl oz bottle of Joyal Beauty Hyaluronic Acid Serum over a week ago. Hyaluronic Acid is a polysaccharid that is found in the human body, which helps lubricates joints and plays a major factor in your skin (50% is in your skin). It heals and moisturizes skin.

A few years ago, companies started using hyaluronic acid in beauty products as it helps the skin retain moisture. As a serum, the hyaluronic acid is easily absorbed into the skin.

Joyal Beauty Hyaluronic Acid Serum is one the best serums on the market. It is used to boost the elasticity and hydration of the skin. It is the highest pure hyaluronic acid concentration on the market. The serum is free of alcohol, parabens, pthalate and GMO. It is also cruelty-free and fragrance-free.

Peppermint Essential Oil Review + Giveaway

I have seen many recipes that call for different kinds of oils, but I live in a small town and I have a hard time finding them. Recently, I tried out the Seaweed (Kelp) Powder, which I used as a scrub and as a facial mask. Let me just say that you do need some sort of oil as the seaweed odor is a bit too strong for me. One of the recipes I found for a facial mask calls for Peppermint Oil.

What exactly is Peppermint Oil

Well, it is derived from the peppermint plant. Normally, it is used to flavor drinks and foods. It can also be used as a supplement or as a skin cream or an ointment. The supplements can help with vomiting (including morning sickness), cramps, diarrhea, colds, sinuses and menstrual problems. The oil version is known to help with irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion and heartburn. The oil can also be applied to the skin to help with headaches, muscle/nerve pain, toothaches, rashes and viral infections.

I received a 4 fl oz bottle of La Lune Naturals Peppermint Oil 100% Pure last week. The oil can cure headaches and it can be used with a vaporizer to get rid of a cold. It can also be used to repel ants, mice and spiders away from your house. There are no additives in this oil.

The ingredients include:

Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha Arvenisis)

Triple-Strength Omega-3 Fish Oil Softgels Review

If you have ever been down the pharmacy aisle in Walmart or another department store, then you have probably seen bottles of Omega-3 Fish Oil as it is a very popular dietary supplement. It is known to prevent and to manage heart disease with the combination of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

Now every person's body is different from one another, so just because one dietary supplement works for one person, doesn’t mean it will work for somebody else. However, Omega-3 Fish Oil has been known to lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, reduce abnormal heart rhythm, decrease plaque in the arteries and reduce the chances of a stroke or heart attack.

I have been taking Omega-3 Fish Oil for a few years due to the little fact that there is high-blood pressure and heart disease in my family. I received the Nutrigold Triple-Strength Omega-3 Gold last week to try out.

Some of you might be wondering what is the difference between this Omega-3 Fish Oil and all the others on the market. Well, for starters, according to LabDoor (an independent lab) the Omega-3 Gold is the No. 1 ranked Fish Oil Omega-3 Supplement in the US. It has a IFOS 5-Star Certified. It is free of GMOs, soy, allergens, artificial ingredients, colors, flavors, milk, lactose, gluten, wheat, yeast, starch, peanuts and shellfish. Each softgel has 1,000 mg of EPA and DHA.

The ingredients include:

Purified Fish Oil Concentrate (from MSC-certified sustainable, wild-caught, US Whitefish such as Walleye Pollock, North Pacific Whiting or Hake and/or North Pacific Cod from Alaskan deep ocean cold waters)

Review:

Last year I read several novels in the Quilts of Love Series from Abingdon Press. Each book in the series is written by a different author with a new plot and a whole new set of characters. And every plot somehow has a quilt or a quilt-maker involved.

A Stitch in Crime by Cathy Elliott is the newest installment in the series. It centers on Thea James, who has a big task at hand when she volunteers to co-chair her town's first quilt show. She thought it would be a great way to expand her antique business, but she is in for quite a surprise when a crime occurs. Someone attacks the town's matriarch Mary-Alice Went worth and steals her diamond brooch.

To make matters worse the quilt show's main attraction, a rare quilt, has gone missing. Everything seems to be falling apart. Thea James is determined to pick up the threads by solving the mystery of who is behind these crimes before she becomes the next victim.

Monday Morning Maddness #50: Books, Halestorm & Into the Woods

I wasn't planning on writing a Monday morning post today, but then I noticed this would be my 50th post, so here I am writing this. I'm glad to say that I finally adjusted my workouts schedule as I exercised before10 AM instead of after 10 PM. I would've done my workout earlier, but I slept in for some odd reason this morning.

My weekend mostly consisted of me attempting to get caught up on reviews, which I'm sadly still behind on. It probably doesn't help that I signed up to review some more products. Actually, I believe I'll be receiving more packages in the mail today. By the way my local post office delivered another package yesterday, which was a Sunday. I was aware they were delivering on Sundays around the holidays, but I thought that had ended a few weeks ago. I guess I was wrong.

Whenever I need a light break from reviewing stuff, I hop on over to YouTube and watch music videos. This is where I stumbled upon the rock band Halestorm and took a liking to their music. On Saturday, I looked for their CDs at my local Walmart, but their music section is so small it is just ridiculous. However, while I was walking down an aisle I glanced over at the $5 CD bin and lo and behold, right there on top of the stack was a Halestorm album. I automatically grabbed it and search through the bin for their other album, but that was the only Halestorm CD in the bin.

I still had a $50 gift card leftover from Christmas which I was planning on buying the Games of Thrones Season 4 DVD next month, so I ended up using it to order Halestorm: The Strange Case Of... for $5.99. I also pre-ordered the new V.C. Andrews book that comes out this week and of course I pre-ordered the Games of Thrones Season 4 DVD.

It can help support theromogenisis, helps fat oxidation and it gives an antioxidant boost.

Review:

Throughout the 1930s and the 1940s, Universal Studios released many monster movie series, including Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy and The Wolf Man. The films became so popular that the studios eventually made three crossover matchups (Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man, House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula). The unrelated House Of The Wolf Man was releaed in 2009. Image Entertainment will unleashed Frankenstein vs The Mummy on DVD and Digital Download on February 10th! The film was written and directed by Damien Leone and stars Max Rhyser, Ashton Leigh, Brandon DeSpain, Constantin Tripes and Robert MacNaughton. She is reunited with her on and off again lover, Dr. Victor Frankenstein (played by Max Rhyser), who is secretly performing dangerous experments in his attempt to re-animate a corpse.

After seeing a photo of Dr. Khaul, the mummy is convinced that she is the sorcerer that cursed him years ago and the mummy is determined to extract his revenge.

Skinology 20% Vitamin C Anti-Aging Serum Review

Many people probably don't even know what an anti-aging serum is. They probably just spray on a toner and use some sort of  moisturizer and call it a day. This was similar to what I was doing, minus the toner, until I started trying out a few anti-aging serum products this year.

There are many different serum brands out there, in which one these happens to be Skinology 20% Vitamin C Anti-Aging Serum with Hyaluronic Acid, Amino Complex, Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid. This unique blend is meant to help fight premature aging (wrinkles, fine lines and age spots) and restore the skin's moisture levels. The serum is made with all-natural ingredients that has been FDA Approved and GMP Certified Facility. It is free of alcohol and parbens. Plus, the serum was never been tested on animals.

NanoRazor 3" Ceramic Paring Knife & Peeler Review

One of my hobbies is cooking. No, I'm not a chef or anything like that. I learned to cook at early age (mostly self-taught) when my mother went back to work and I did most of the cooking for myself. Now as I an adult, I normally cook most of my own meals, though I do occasionally grab a Market-side chicken salad or a Cantina Power Bowl at Taco Bell.

Now the one thing that every amateur or professional chef needs in their kitchen is a reliable paring knife. Whether you are wanting to cut vegetable, fruits, bread or cold cuts, a sturdy paring knife can come in handy. Now you probably already own several flimsy pairing knives that you have gotten free at a bank or another business during some sort of promotions.

I have several these cheap knifes in a kitchen drawer and I don't use them very often as they don't cut very good. I purchased a higher priced paring knife at my local Walmart and it is sturdy, but it doesn't cut very good, so I was more than eager to try out the NanoRazor 3" Ceramic Paring Knife that comes with a free Peeler.

This cream is meant to help fight stretch marks and scars by using an unique formula that uses organic cocoa butter and shea butter as well as pure plant oils and vitamins. Overtime, the cream can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars.

As many of my blog readers have already noticed, I have been trying out many different creams, gels and serums for the past month.

OZ Naturals Facial Toner Review

Typically, I avoid the beauty aisles in the department stores unless I need some body soap, but as of lately I have become interested in some beauty products, such as eye creams, defense creams, facial lotions, etc., which probably has something to do with the little fact that I have noticed my skin aging slightly and I'm only 33.

To be completely honest, I have never heard of a "facial toner" until I received the 4 fl. oz bottle of OZ Naturals Ocean Mineral Tonic a few days ago. This toner is meant to be a base layer before you use an anti-aging serum or moisturizers. With proper use it can help reduce fine lines, uneven skin tone and sun damage on your skin. It is 100% natural,
cruelty-free and vegan. It doesn't have any alcohol, parabens or sulfates.

The ingredients include:

Harnamelis Virginiana (Wich Hazel)
Ocean Minerals
Deionized Aqua (Water)
Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera)
Glycolic Acid
Methylulfonylmethane (MSM)
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C)
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
Hydorgenated Vegetable Oil
Crithum Maritimum Extract (Sea Fennel Wax)
Matrixyl 3000

Run Forever Sports - Calf Compression Sleeves Review

Beside from watching the occasional baseball and football game, I have never really been into sports. However, I took an interest in Tae Bo (which isn't a sport) and other kickboxing exercises in recent years.

After taking a long break from exercising, I restarted a daily exercise routine right on December 26th. I've been wearing a knee brace just so I don't hurt my bad knee. I've seen people jogging around town that wear calf compression sleeves, so I thought it would give the Run Forever Sports - Calf Compression Sleeves a try during my workouts.

These type of sleeves are suppose to stop cramps in your lower calves by increasing blood flow to your muscles. This will also help your muscles recover from a workout faster. The pressure in the sleeves start at the top at 20mmHg and progresses to the bottom at 25mmHg.

Review:

I took a slight break after Christmas from reading/reviewing books and I'm now I'm back at full steam, so you'll be seeing me featuring more book titles on here in the next couple of weeks.

While it may seem a little bit odd for a male to like reading romance novels, but romance is in fact one of my favorite genres in the literature world. Typically, I prefer to read historical romances, but I thought I would try something new by reading the modern day romantic suspense Hidden Agenda by author Lisa Harris. I wasn't aware when I signed up to review the title through Revell that this was the third book in the Southern Crimes series as I don't care for jumping into the middle of a series without reading the prior novels, but luckily for me this is more of a standalone tale.

Hidden Agenda centers a Michael Hunt, a cop who has left his family and friends believe that he is dead in order to go deep undercover for the past eight months. All his hard work becomes in jeopardy when his cover is blown. Now injured, he is only hope for help is Olivia Hamilton, who happens to be the daughter of the man he has been trying to take down. To make matters even worse, the cartel have put a bounty on his head. Plus, seeking help for the Atlanta police department will do him no good as the department is corrupted. And of course Michael has to deal with his unexpected feeling for Olivia.

Premium Pure Konjac Cleansing Sponge Review & Giveaway

I have never attempted to exfoliate my face until recently when I began trying out different creams and gels. I've tried just using a simple washcloth, but it doesn't exactly exfoliate as to do this correctly you need to use a facial scrub or sponge.

Review:

Now available to own on Blu-ray is the thriller A Walk Among The Tombstones. The film is directed by Scott Frank and stars Liam Neeson. Special Features include A Look Behind the Tombstone and Matt Scudder: Private Eye (Blu-ray Exclusive).

Based on the 1992 crime novel of the same name by Lawrence Block, A Walk Among The Tombstones centers on an ex-NYPD cop Matthew Scudder (played by Liam Neeson), who happens to be eight years sober, spending his days as a private detective. Though Matthew was hesitant at first, he agrees to find out who killed the wife of Kenny Kristo (played Dan Stevens) and bring the men responsible to him.

With the occasional help from a street kid TJ (played by Brian "Astro" Bradley), Matthew begins to unravel the crime that leads to other victims. Out of nowhere, the murderers kidnap the daughter, Lucia (played by Danielle Rose Russell), of a drug trafficker and they demand a ransom. Fearing the worst, Matthew takes charge of the situation, leading him into a direct path with the murderers.

Garcinia/Cleanse ADVANCED Fast Weight Loss Kit Review

I think all my regular blog followers are well aware that I have been trying to drop a few pounds this year and I have successfully lost six pounds as of this morning. Now I haven't done this over night, I started exercising daily on Dec. 26th and I started eating healthier on Jan. 1st. During this time I have tried several different dietary supplements.

Typically, I would at least tryout a dietary supplement for two weeks before writing a review, however I saw a small results from taking the Garcinia/Cleanse ADVANCED Fast Weight Loss Kit from Team Innovations, LLC. The kit includes a 30 days supply of Garcina Gambogia Advanced and Slender Cleanse Advanced. While you could take these supplements separately, taking them together will result in faster results, though you might want to take a break from the Slender Cleanse after 7 days.

My guess is that almost everybody has heard of Garcinia Gabogia, mostly due to Dr. Oz mentioning it on his television show a few years ago, which has resulted in in a bit of controversy about whether or not the product actually works. In my opinion, dietary supplements won't work for every single person. Some people will see results from using them and other people won't. Every person's body is different, therefore everyone will get different results

Garcina Cambogia Advanced is meant to limit fat production, burn existing fat for energy, naturally boost your energy & mood and help reduce the stress hormone Cortisol. The ingredients include: Calcium, Chromium, Potassium and Garcinia Cambogia (fruit rind) Extract (with 60% HCA). There are no fillers, binders or artificial ingredients.
