Celebrate 75 Years of 'Peanuts': 40 TV Specials on DVD and Blu-ray!

Since Charles Schulz first introduced that lovable bald kid in the iconic yellow zigzag shirt, fans of all ages have rallied around the Peanuts gang like a blanket on a chilly Halloween night. This year marks a delightful milestone—the 75th anniversary of our beloved friends from the neighborhood. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is unveiling an enticing treasure trove: a DVD Collection [*] (retailing for $64.98) and a Blu-ray set [*] (for a slightly higher price of $76.99), both featuring a whopping 40 TV specials. From the unforgettable 1965 classic A Charlie Brown Christmas to Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown (2011), this collection is a heartfelt homage to the charm and humor that have turned Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, and their gang into eternal cultural icons.

The collection, aptly named "The Ultimate TV Specials Collection," is an assemblage of classics meticulously divided across five discs. A little "Guide" booklet accompanies the set, neatly laying out each episode and its original air date, with delightful artwork gracing the pages. However, don’t expect any glittering special features or extras—it’s a bare-bones release that doesn’t attempt to glamorize nostalgia; it simply invites you to relive it.

'Light of the World': A Family-Friendly Adventure Filled with Heart

Disclosure: Many thanks to Salvation Poem for providing a digital screener for this review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.

Computers can be a useful tool; heck, I’m typing this very post on one right now. They’ve undeniably reshaped the animation landscape, both for better and worse. Classic hand-drawn 2D animation feels like a relic, a sparkling gem mostly lost to the age of CGI and rapid digital production. But here comes a refreshing breeze: the new Christian animated film, The Light of the World, hitting theaters today, September 5th, is boldly stepping back into the 2D animation realm. As noted on the film’s website, lightoftheworld.com, “Hand-drawn animation is a timeless medium that retains its beauty over many decades. It contains all the subtle flaws we’ve come to call 'human.'” What a beautiful sentiment! It’s a fitting tribute to Jesus—the only flawless figure to ever tread this Earth.

Directed by the talented John Schafer, known for producing the beloved program Superbook (which, I must confess, I had not heard of until now), and alongside animator Tom Bancroft, who has a rich history with Disney, having worked on masterpieces like The Lion King, Mulan, and Beauty and the Beast, this film is the inaugural offering from the Salvation Poem Project—a ministry dedicated to spreading the message of Christ to the world.

Stream 'The King of Kings': A Family-Friendly Animated Tale of Jesus Inspired by Dickens' Legacy

THE KING OF KINGS
Angel Studios, 2025
★★★★✰

The animated film The King of Kings is now available to stream on Angel.com and the Angel App, and is available to all Angel Guild members. The film is loosely based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and tells the story of Jesus Christ, which the author read aloud to his children every year at Christmas. It was a handwritten manuscript, and he strictly forbade publication of The Life of Our Lord during his lifetime. The Dickens family continued their Christmas tradition of reading it aloud and, honoring the father’s wishes, postponed publication until all of Dickens’s children had passed away.

Directed, written, and produced by Seong-Ho Jang, The King of Kings features an all-star voice cast—including Kenneth Branagh as Charles Dickens, Uma Thurman as Catherine Dickens, Pierce Brosnan as Pontius Pilate, Mark Hamill as King Herod, Roman Griffin Davis as Walter Dickens, Forest Whitaker as Peter, Ben Kingsley as High Priest Caiaphas, and Oscar Isaac as Jesus Christ. The King of Kings captivated audiences worldwide, earning over $70 million at the box office since its release on April 11th.

The film begins with Scrooge confronting his own grave at the end of A Christmas Carol. The audience then sees Charles Dickens performing a dramatic reading of his story on stage before a large crowd. During the reading, Dickens's young son Walter, who is fascinated by King Arthur, interrupts the event with his imagination. After returning home, Dickens's wife encourages him to share his personal version of the story of Jesus Christ with Walter, hoping the story will teach their son important lessons.

The rest of the movie features highlights from Jesus's life, from his birth in a stable to his death and resurrection. While it's a condensed, family-friendly version of Jesus's life, there are a few dark scenes that could be disturbing for younger children, including a windstorm/tornado scene, the healing of a single leper, and the death of many hogs jumping off a cliff. Then there's the crucifixion of Jesus, which might be a little too violent and dark for younger viewers.

To my surprise, I enjoyed the film, despite typically not being a fan of modern animation. The animation looked good, and there were several cinematic, eye-popping moments that surpassed what is typically expected from a cartoon. The directing was wonderful, and I could clearly tell Seong-Ho Jang was passionate about what he was putting on screen.

Overall, I thought The King of Kings was an entertaining retelling of Jesus Christ's life and recommend it to others.

Watch The King of Kings now on Angel.com or download the Angel App on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, and other major platforms.
