Why is it the lonely hearts are the ones who read the most romance novels? Is it because we believe there is a soulmate out there for us? Are we just more romantic than others? Or is it a distraction from our loneliness?

About the Book
A man wakes up in present-day Alaskan wilderness with no idea who he is, nothing on him save an empty journal with the date 1898 and a mirror. He sees another man hunting nearby, astounded that they look exactly alike. After following this other man home, he witnesses a wife and child that brings forth a rush of memories of his own wife and child, except he’s certain they do not exist in modern times—but from his life in the late 1800s. After recalling his name is Wyatt, he worms his way into his doppelganger Travis Barlow’s life. Memories become unearthed the more time he spends, making him believe that he’d been frozen after coming to Alaska during the Gold Rush and that Travis is his great-great grandson. Wyatt is certain gold still exists in the area and finding it with Travis will ingratiate himself to the family, especially with Travis’s wife Callie, once Wyatt falls in love. This turns into a dangerous obsession affecting the Barlows and everyone in their small town, since Wyatt can’t be tamed until he also discovers the meaning of why he was able to be preserved on ice for over a century. Adam is the resident vampire in a small college town in Michigan. It’s the same scenario every night: wander campus, snag a co-ed for dinner, get home before dawn. Rinse. Repeat--until an irresistible new professor appears. From the shadows, he follows her every footstep, lurking, until he witnesses a tragic accident. As life drains from the object of his desire, he is faced with an impossible choice: Should he intervene or not?

It's nearly midnight, and I'm drinking a cup of Starbucks Italian Roast Coffee, which is supposed to taste like dark chocolate and roasted marshmallows. Maybe my taste buds have fallen asleep because all I can taste is the arabica coffee. And, no, the coffee isn't the reason why I am still awake. For those of you who haven't looked at the calendar, today is October 1st. Or what I like to refer to as the official start of the Halloween season, and anybody who knows me knows it's my favorite time of year. So, I spent my night watching Halloween (1978) and Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers on AMC. Halloween isn't just my favorite season, it's also my favorite movie, and even though I own all the Halloween films on Blu-ray, I still get excited when it airs on cable. I can't explain why, but watching the movies makes me feel like a teenager again.

Is romance only found in novels and movies?
This question popped into my mind after watching the movie The Secret: Dare To Dream a few nights ago. (FYI: I'll be reviewing this movie soon, so keep an eye out for the post.). It's a rare sappy romance that I liked.
Is it weird for a 39-year-old bachelor to like a romance movie?
Maybe I am romantic at heart, which would explain why I use to read a slew of romance novels. The keywords here are “used to.” While romance novels are enjoyable to read, they can also be depressing when you are single, which is one of the main reasons why I have slowed down on my romance reading.
