In the late summer of 1992, I recall browsing through the book section at a extremely small Walmart. It was there that I stumbled upon the first Goosebumps book (Welcome to Dead House) by R.L. Stine and I was instantly hooked. Fast forward to 2019, where I'm a lot older, but still a diehard Goosebumps fan!!

If you weren't already aware, the Goosebumps franchise is still going today with the latest spinoff "SlappyWorld," which features the #1 Goosebumps villain Slappy as the host of each installment. The 7th title in the series It's Alive! It's Alive! was released to bookstores in February by Scholastic.

The book centers around Livvy Jones, a young girl who's excited about participating in the Springdale Robots Meet, which is a Robotic competition. She has teamed up with her best friend, Gates Warwas, and between the two of them, they have created a life size robot, Francine, that has been programmed with the greatest abilities imaginable - cracking eggs and cooking an omelette!

Sounds exiting, right?

It's at least exciting for Livvy and Gates; well, until their robot goes berserk and attempts to do harm to the other robots on their team. Thanks goodness Livvy's parents are computer programmers and experts in artificial intelligence, as they can help reprogram the robot.

However, Francine continues to malfunction. Does the robot have a mind of its own?

Now available on Blu-ray from Mill Creek Entertainment is the 1985 action sleazefest Malibu Express ($19.98; R; 105 minutes), which is the first film in the "Bullets, Bombs and Babes" series from the late director Andy Sidaris. A Digital code is included with the Blu-ray that can be redeemed and streamed on Mill Creek Entertainment's website.

The low-budget film stars Darby Hinton as Cody Abilene, a wealthy Texan who lives on his "Malibu Express" yacht. When women aren't instantly dropping their clothes for him, he spends the rest of time playing private eye in Florida.

After being hired by a secret government intelligence operative to investigate who is selling USA computer technology to Russia, Coby gets intertwined into a murder mystery plot, which leads him to team up with a female cop (played by Lori Sutton). To unravel how the two cases are connected, Coby must deal with hitmen, rednecks, and many beautiful women.

Yes, I know it's been awhile since my last Midnight Horror Review, but between putting my grandmother in a nursing home, moving her belongings into a storage unit, and dealing with a flu/ cold bug, I haven't had a lot to time to watch any horror flicks until a few nights ago when I binged watched the Apocalypse: 4 in 1 Collection DVD (Not Rated; $19.98; 5 hrs 49 mins), which will be released on April 16th by Mill Creek Entertainment. The two-disc set features four made-for-SyFy television movies: Arachnoquake, Ghostquake, Miami Magma, and Weather Wars. There are no special features or bonus extras.

Let's start with the best first and work my way down to the worst that this release has to offer!

Arachnoquake first aired on SyFy in 2012. It's a B-spider flick from director G.E. Furst, who also serves as supervising producer for the other three titles on this release. Plus, Furst also acts in the movies as well. Ignore Arachnoquake's 2.9 rating on IMDb as the movie isn't that bad. It stars Bug Hall, Tracey Gold, Edward Furlong, Dane Rhodes, and Ethan Phillips. The plot centers around a dangerous species of giant fire-breathing spiders being unleashed after several earthquakes occur in New Orleans. An alcoholic tour guide ends up leading a group of tourists in a quest to kill the "queen" spider, who basically controls the life of all the other spiders.

Ghostquake aired on SyFy in 2012 under the title Haunted High. Jeffery Scott Lando directed this horror-comedy, which stars M.C. Gainey, Lauren Whitney Pennington, Jonathan Baron, Mark Donato, Shawn Phillips, and Danny Trejo. Charisma Carpenter has a cameo as a librarian. The plot centers around a time capsule at a private high school being knocked open, which releases the ghosts of a cult leader, Danforth, and his female assistant. Danforth unleashes a series of supernatural earthquakes that traps several students and teachers inside the school.

Weather Wars aired on SyFy in 2011 under the title Storm War. Directed by Todor Chapkanov, the disaster flick stars Jason London, Wes Brown, Erin Cahill, and Stacy Keach. The plot is ridiculously dumb! It involves a recently fired scientist seeking revenge on the government by unleashing a series of dangerous lighting strikes across Washington D.C. Only two people in the entire city who can stop him are his estranged sons!

Miami Magma aired on SyFy in 2011. Directed by Todor Chapkanov, this boring disaster flick stars Rachel Hunter, Cleavant Derricks, Melissa Ordway, Griff Furst, and Brad Dourif (more like a cameo). Thanks to an oil company that's been illegally drilling, a super-volcano erupts underneath Miami. Vulcanologist Antoinette Vitrini (played by Rachel Hunter) and her much younger sister attempt to expose the oil company.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to personal protection, it can be difficult to know where to start. While violent crime may be declining, you never know when you may need to protect yourself. I have to be completely honest, I had forgot I was sent an ARC of the novel until late last week when I noticed I had a post draft setup for today's review; so I spent the weekend reading The Memory House. It's basically two stories in one that intertwine together. (Hopefully that sentence made sense to everyone!)

The first story centers around Beck Holiday, a NYC cop who inherits a house near the Florida's northern coast. Since she's on a four-week suspension for misconduct, she has nothing better to do than travel to Florida to the house that was left to her by the late Miss Everleigh, who she doesn't remember ever meeting. Upon arrival, she learns Miss Everleigh also left her entire fortune, which rounds out to be $7,000 per month!

Why doesn't she remember Miss Everleigh?

Maybe Bruno Endicott can help jumpstart her memory?

Bruno is a sports agent who was once friends with Beck when they were children. However, she has no recollection of him.

The other story centers around a younger Everleigh Applegate, a widow who is living with her widowed mother in Texas. After the loss of her husband, Everleigh slowly starts to rebuild her life, which includes Don Callhan, an old high school friend. This is a love story, so you can probably guess what happens.
