{Sunday Post} - Fifth-Grade Zombies and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Everyone!

Air Conditioning is a Necessity

I planned to have this post written on Saturday afternoon, but I crashed and burned before 7 PM. Why? I've had a couple of all-nighters this past week. And, no, I'm not referring to binge drinking. I'm not a big drinker, to begin with, so that could never be the cause for going days without sleep. What it comes down to is I have had a bit too much on my plate, and I had to forgo sleep in exchange for getting a few neglected things done. I attempted to rest on Friday night, but lo and behold, the air conditioner died and made getting some shuteye nearly impossible. Of course, finding a technician on a Saturday morning took forever and costed extra. The fan motor and capacitor were kaput. By 1 PM, the air conditioner was running smoothly again.

No More Feedburner

For those who don't already know, Google terminated Feedburner on July 1st. Before that date, I made the switch to follow.it. I made a mistake in the HTML, and the subscribe form wasn't working right until I fixed it on Friday. Now, follow.it only allows you to import 100 subscribers. If you had more than 100 email subscribers on Feedburner, there is a workaround. You need to download your Feedburner subscriber list as a CSV file. Take a screenshot of your Feedback to prove the number of subscribers. Then contact follow.it support via the 'Import Followers' forum, and they will email you with instructions on how to proceed with importing all of your subscribers. Don't be surprised if the vast amount of your subscribers are fake. I've learned that Feedburner had a vulnerability that prevented spam emails from getting into their system. Many of the Outlook email subscribers were fake. I wasn't aware of this until after follow.it support contacted me. They are currently taking care of my Feedburner subscriber list, meaning they will remove all spam emails.

I would appreciate it if everyone would subscribe to my blog through this new service. You can find the subscribe button in the sidebar. Please leave a comment if you subscribe, and I'll make sure to subscribe to your blog if I'm not already. Thank you!

Reviews Are Back

I kicked my rear end into gear and wrote three reviews this past week. My main focus is to write more often and schedule posts ahead of time.

What Am I Reading?

I finally finished reading The Amityville Horror II and moved on to a Goosebumps book. I'm hoping to begin my next read sometime today. It's called Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by Quentin Tarantino. Yes, the great director has written a novelization of his 2019 film Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood. Now I wanted nothing to do with this film upon its original release because the trailer didn't interest me one bit. However, I later changed my mind after watching the last hour on Starz last year. Eventually, I watched the entire movie and fell in love with it. I own it on Blu-ray, which I have watched several times. I would say it's my third favorite movie, right behind Halloween (1978) and Two Mules for Sister Sara. The novelization came out at the tail end of June, but none of the stores around here got it in. Like everything else, I had to order it off of Amazon

From my understanding, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood isn't your typical novelization. Director and writer Quentin Tarantino penned the 400-page novel and added more character details, scenes that weren't in the movie, and plays with the film's timeline. A deluxe hardcover edition is coming out sometime this Fall with new material and never-before-seen photos. If I like the novelization, then there's a chance I might want to own the hardcover too.

What's in the Mail?

There was nothing review-wise in the mail this past week. I should be getting a few things in the mail soon.

What's New On the Bookshelf?

New to my ongoing book collection is the most recent installment of the Goosebumps franchise, titled Goosebumps SlappyWorld: Fifth-Grade Zombies by R.L. Stine. I wanted to read it on Saturday, but that didn't pan out. Instead, I'll be reading it this morning before I tackle Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

  1. Ugg it feels like the AC always goes out at the worst possible time. I remember as a kid the AC would always die on the hottest day of the year (which, where I'm from is around 115 degrees). Glad you got it fixed and got some sleep. Have a great week!

    1. The AC has something wrong with it last year too. It seems when the outside temperature nears 100, that's when the AC quits.

  2. Goosebumps first came out in the 90s, right? They were just a bit past my time, in terms of school-age reading. I bet I would have loved them. I'm reading a lot of middle grade books at the moment, so no reason I can't start the series now!

  3. It always seems like the AC goes out at the worst time. It seems like all house issues seems to pop up on a weekend. Glad you were able to have it fixed. I just switched to follow.it, my first emails should go out Monday, I think they said. I was debating between that or Mail Chimp and ended it up going with feed.it because they could handle switching my subscribers over.

    Lovely blog!

  5. It's been very cold here in SA this passed week, so I can't imagine complaining about an AC! But I do understand the feeling in summer.

I've actually never read a novelization, but I know it's very popular at school with the kids. Once upon a time in Hollywood can only be good! The movie was strange, but heck it's Tarantino! What else do you expect. But it was still a good watch.

    Have a good week ahead!

    1. I read many "junior" novelizations when I was a kid. I don't find too many new adult novelizations in stores anymore. I had to order Once Upon a Time in Hollywood because I couldn't find it in stores in my area. There's a novelization for Halloween Kills coming out in October. I'll be pre-ordering it soon.

    Have a great week!

    1. I've been reading/collecting Goosebumps books since 1992. :) As an adult, the stories aren't as scary, but they're fun to read.

  7. Ugh, I know about air conditioning. I had to give in and just replace mine back at the beginning of May. I cannot go without it. But my heater needed it to, so I just did it all at once. I read the first Amityville Horror, but haven't read any more I don't think. Have a good week!

    1. I can't afford to replace the AC unit. It was cheaper to have the old one fixed. I read the first Amityville Horror 20+ years from a library. I ordered the paperback from Hamilton Books last week.

  8. Once upon a time in Hollywood is such an awesome movie. I am hesitant to pick up the book though. my air conditioner goes out once a year and I dread the day that it has to be replaced. my preteen has just started reading my collection of Goosebumps and I could not be more thrilled. Hope you have a good week.

  9. I didn't realise they were still releasing Goosebumps books, that's so awesome! Once Upon a Time In Hollywood just got added to UK Netflix so I'm looking forward to watching that hopefully soon, myself. :D

  10. I enjoyed the movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I haven't read the book, though. I also switched to Follow It and I've been happy with it so far. Hope you have a great week!

    1. The book is an adaptation of Quentin Tarantino's script. From my understanding, he changes the timeline a bit, adds more character details, and includes scenes that got deleted from the film's final cut.

  11. I am glad you were able to get the air conditioning running again, Billy. What a nightmare that could have been if it'd gone on longer. I noticed that about the spam subscribers on Feedburner. I deleted them all before transferring my subscribers over. I am glad follow.it is doing it for you! It will save you a lot of time. I had no idea there was another Walking Dead spin off. How did I miss that?! I hope you have a great weekend and week ahead. I'm sorry I'm so late visiting your blog from last weekend. It's been such a crazy week. Take care, Billy!

    1. The Walking Dead: World Beyond aired last Fall, and it had little media buzz. There were only ten episodes in the first season. The second season will be it's last with another ten episodes.
