My Current Reads
For the rest of the month, I will be reading a book per day. No, this isn't a personal challenge. I'm slightly behind on my 13 Days of Halloween posts, so I'm having to read the books a day before they're supposed to be published. Is it stressful? Surprisingly, no, it's not stressful at all, though reading nearly 1,200 pages in three days has put a little strain on my eyes. Nevertheless, I'm going to push through it and finish the event on time.
Today, I'm reading Return to Fear Street: You May Now Kill The Bride by R.L. Stine. The book has been out for a few months and I've been holding back my urge to read it, just so I can feature it during my Halloween event.
Tomorrow, I will be reading Return to Fear Street: Wrong Girl by R.L. Stine. Tuesday, I will be reading Echoes in the Walls by V.C. Andrews. Wednesday, I will be reading Hocus Pocus & The All-New Sequel. Thursday, I will be reading the anthology Scream and Scream Again!. Friday, I will be reading Monsterland Reanimated by Michael Okon. And on Saturday, I will be reading The House with a Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs.
Update: I'm now on page 26 of the nonfiction book "American Mirror: The Life and Art of Norman Rockwell" by Deborah Solomon. WHOOPEE! I read one chapter!

In The Mail
Books
I had received a press release earlier this month about the upcoming anthology 18 Wheels of Science Fiction edited by Eric Miller. While I don't read very much science fiction, the premise intrigued me, so I request to review the book, which arrived in the mail on Friday. I'll probably be posting my review on November 4th, which is when the book is being released.
FYI: I have an uncle named Eric Miller, so the editor's name caught my attention right away.
On Friday afternoon, I received a package from Amazon that I had totally forgot about, which contained two music CDs - Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and Elle King: Shake the Spirit. I had pre-ordered the albums several weeks ago and I just didn't realized both of them were being released on Oct. 19th. Shake the Spirit came with an MP3 download, while the Halloween soundtrack didn't, but I ended up purchasing the MP3 album later that day.
Blu-rays
I received a Blu-ray of Down A Dark Hall on Monday, which I have already reviewed on my blog a few days ago. It's based on the 1974 young adult novel of the same name by the late Lois Duncan.
Also, I received the Black Sails: The Complete Collection Blu-ray, featuring all four seasons from the STARZ series. I have never seen the series before, but I believe it's supposed to be a prequel to Treasure Island. I will probably have to have a few nights of binge watching before I write my review for it.
New On the Bookshelf
Am I the only person who didn't know there were more books in the Millennium Series! I have the original trilogy by Stieg Larrson, which I found each book one at a time at a thrift store. I have yet to read the books, but I did watch 2011's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and loved it. Recently, I found out there are two other books in the series written by David Lagercrantz, who took over after the original author Steg Larrson died.
Today, I stumbled upon a paperback of The Girl in the Spider's Web at Walmart, which the art cover is a tie-in to the upcoming feature film that I knew nothing about! Anyway, I ended up buying the book. The movie is being released on November 9th, so maybe I'll read the book in early November. We'll see what happens.
No More Book Blog Tours
For the last few years, I have participated in a two book blog tours that automatically signed up me for book spotlights. At first it was great as it gave new content for my blog and freed up some time for me. However, it has become very stressful for me this year. I sometimes have four to six spotlights to post per day, which all have to be in the top spots on my blog for whatever day they're scheduled for. These posts have caused my reviews and ramblings to be shoved to the bottom of the blog. By the next day, my posts are off of the main page, where nobody can find them unless you do a search. Visitors who comment on book tour posts, copy and paste the exact same thing in every post, which just spams up my blog.
Recently, I made the decision to leave these blog tours and yesterday, I sent my official emails asking to be taken off of the tours. I hated to do this, but I'm refocusing my attention to this blog and by doing so means there's going to be lots of changes, starting with no tours. I was already assigned several spotlights several weeks ago and all those posts will be published as scheduled. I believe the last tour post will be on Nov. 14th.
