Review:

Now available on DVD from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is the holiday comedy Santa's Little Helper. Directed by Gil Junger, the film stars WWE superstars Mike "The Miz" Mizanin and Paige. Special features includes The "Ho Ho Ho," Introducing Paige and Holiday Cast & Crew.

Produced by WWE Studios, Santa's Little Helper centers on a businessman, Dax (played by Mike "The Miz" Mizanin), who is suddenly fired from his job. To make matters worse, his girlfriend leaves him, his car is repossessed and the bank is going foreclose on his home.

Luckily for Dax, his a guardian angel, well, actually it's just Santa Claus (played by Eric Keenleyside), has been keeping an eye out on Dax for awhile. Santa needs a second-in-command, which is called the Ho Ho Ho, at his North Pole operations and he believes that Dax is the best man for the job. Instead of sending himself to see if Dax is up for the challenge, Santa sends his top elf, Billie (played by Annalynne McCord) to recruit him.

Of course, Dax doesn't believe that Santa is real, but he really needs a job, so he agrees to participate in several embarrassing tests, which he barely passes. Unfortunately, the Ho Ho Ho position might not be his as the elf named Eleanor (played by Paige) wants the job and challenges to Dax to competition.

I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas movies (except for the classics) and considering I've been in a "Scrooge-like" mood lately, you might find it a bit of surprise that I'm reviewing a holiday film. To tell you the truth, I had requested to review Santa’s Little Helper awhile back and I had forgotten about it until I received the DVD in the mail earlier this week. My original thought was to watch it after Thanksgiving as maybe then I would have a bit of the Christmas spirit, but then I talked myself into viewing it yesterday morning, which is when I realized this was a WWE film.

While I haven't watched a wrestling program in years, I'm well aware of who The Miz is and that he starred in last few Marine sequels. His acting skills are mixed in this movie; during the slapstick moments, he does a pretty good job, but he's a bit too wooden in the other scenes. Annalynne McCord was miscast as the elf Billie. The plot of Santa needing a new helper has been done to death. The juvenile script featuring bland jokes and cringe worthy dialogue doesn't help any.

Why would I give this movie 3 out five?

Well, for one reason - the adorable Saraya-Jade "Paige" Bevis, who steals ever scene she is in as the devilish elf Eleanor. Overall, Santa's Little Helper is a cliched Christmas comedy that adds nothing new to the genre. However, I was never bored, so I guess it was a bit entertaining.
