Review:

Available to own on DVD & VUDU Digital Copy from ARC Entertainment is the computer-animated fantasy adventure Ava & Lala. The film is directed by Wang Yunfei and features the voice-talents of Tom Arnold, JK Simmons, Mira Sorvino and George Takei. There are no special features or extras on the DVD.

The film centers on a mischievous young martial arts student named Ava, whom befriends a tiger-like creature named Lala. Somehow, the two new friends can talk to each other.

Before long, Ava follows Lala and rides a magical whale to Cloudland - an island with magical creatures. Humans can only stay on the island for three days or they will turn into animals themselves. She also befriends a friendly bear named Uncle Bear.

What seems like a wonderful safe place to live quickly turns into a nightmare when Tiger General learns that Lala has returned and has brought a human to their world. Ava must find away to escape back to her village before it is too late.

It seems like there are many Chinese animation getting released straight-to-DVD with American actors voicing the characters and that is exactly what happens with Ava & Lala. Though this is no Pixar film, the animation is pretty good for a lower-budget animated movie. There are many different talking animals characters throughout the film, which will certainly entertain younger viewers. The plot is original and cliched-free. Overall, Ava & Lala is a beautifully made animated film that I enjoyed watching. I highly recommend it to others.
