The World's Biggest Fancy Dress Events

When it comes to fancy dress events, there are enough of them to choose from. There are festivals designed to celebrate fancy dress while other events are held that people simply choose to dress up for. It might be a music festival or it could be a kids’ fancy dress party. Here are just a few of the biggest events around the world.

Benidorm

This Spanish town plays host to a huge fancy dress festival every year. Claiming to be one of the biggest in Europe, the party has tacked itself onto the end of the Benidorm fiestas, taking place on the first Thursday after the events. While it started off from quite small beginnings, the party has since expanded and is now thought to be a very popular event each year.

Snowbombing

This annual snow festival is held in Mayrhofen, Austria every year and visitors spend the days skiing, snowboarding, going to gigs, relaxing in the spa hotel and dressing up. The fancy dress element to this festival has become quite a big deal with different themes being held on different nights. Everything from carnivals to Disney films are recreated through the outfits of the partygoers for a week that they'll never forget.

Bestival

Every September, the Isle of Wight houses Bestival, one of the most well-known fancy dress/music festivals. For four days each year, the Robin Hill country park becomes home to various music artists, food tents and fancy dress-loving people. Each year there is a different theme, giving people the chance to really let loose with their costumes. For 2013, Bestival is going nautical but past themes have included wildlife and rock stars, pop stars and divas. With themes as diverse as that, those buying tickets will have a great time choosing the perfect outfit.

Halloween

Undisputedly one of the biggest worldwide fancy dress events, Halloween has captured the heart of the world as children and adults alike dress up as a variety of different scary and funny characters. The 31st October is a chance for the kids to go trick-or-treating and the adults to stock up on all manner of sweeties for the little ones.

Parties are held at universities, clubs and houses as everyone gets together to celebrate Halloween. Theme parks even have special late-night opening hours to lure in thrill-seekers. Being able to ride on rollercoasters in the middle of the night is certainly an exhilarating experience and gives people something a bit different to do.

Create your own

If you can't make any of these events but want to get involved in a fancy dress party of some sort, simply create your own event. Whether you hire a hall, host it at your house or get a group of mates together to go into town just for the fun of dressing up, don't hold back. Go all out with face paints, accessories and your outfits for a day (or night) that none of you will forget. The more of you that get involved the more fun you're likely to have.
