{Monday Morning Madness} - Birthday Wishlist and Email Subscriptions

Good Afternoon, Everyone!

I had all intentions of having this post written and published early this morning. But thanks to other responsibilities beyond my control, I didn't have time to do so until after 3 PM. So this is more of an afternoon post than a morning one.

{Random Rambling} - Anxiety, Fear of Dating, and Books

Hopefully, everyone is doing well on this fine afternoon. Yes, I said fine afternoon. The snow that fell from the sky yesterday morning is all melted, and the temperatures are in the 40s. I know what you're thinking. While many will consider the 40s to be cold, I believe it's nice. It's warm enough to ditch the coat and cool enough for a jacket.

{Monday Morning Madness] - Feedburner, Interracial Dating, and Baseball

Good Morning, Everyone!

Yes, I'm well aware it's no longer consider morning, but I do have a good excuse for the lateness of this post. For some reason, Microsoft decided to update my laptop this morning even though I have the automatic update settings turned off. It took forever for everything to download, install, and reboot. (FYI - I turned off the updates because I'm sick and tired of Microsoft wanting to install updates every other day. When you have things to do, it becomes annoying.)

Random Rambling - Dating, Exercising, and Writing

It's another sleepless night for me for many reasons I will not go into, and, no, it doesn't have anything to do with my caffeine intake, though I did brew a cup just a few minutes ago. Once again, my mind is practically running on a different cylinder than my usual norm and listening to Taylor Swift's Fearless rerelease. (Yes, I am a Taylor Swift fan. Enough said.) There are too many things I need to catch up on and several new ideas I would like to focus my attention on. If there were only more hours in a day, then maybe I could get more things accomplished. Or if I would solve my procrastination issues then, I would have plenty of time to do all things I want to do.

{Late-At-Night Rambling} - Hammer Glamour & Online Dating

Thanks to a lack of sleep and drinking a bit too much caffeine, my mind is currently running on totally different cylinders tonight. Instead of writing reviews and articles, I'm watching clips and interviews of older actresses on Youtube. Yes, I know that might sound a bit weird, but I sort of having a reason for it. I've been a Hammer Films fan since I was a little bitty kid, but my fascination with these gothic films has increased ever since I got my hands on the Hammer Films: The Ultimate Collection Blu-ray set from Mill Creek Entertainment. And I cannot exactly explain it, but a chain reaction took place. I bought several Hammer movies on DVD and Blu-ray from Scream Factory and Warner Archives and several VUDU digitals. Then I ordered the books "The Art of Hammer: Posters From The Archives of Hammer Films" and "Hammer Glamour: Classic Images From The Archives Of Hammer Films." The latter title is all about the gorgeous actresses who appeared in those films. I'm not naming names, but I have developed an infatuation with at least three of these women, even though they are all old enough to be my grandmothers.

{Random Rambling} - Dating Apps and Interabled Relationships

Having a chronic disease or disability can put a strain on your relationship with your family and friends, and it can also affect your love life. Being single can be depressing enough by itself but can be even worse when you have a medical condition. Hollywood and the media love to glamorize love stories and show us that only people with perfect bodies with zero issues can fall in love. In reality, this isn't true at all. Nobody is perfect, and every one of us has our weaknesses and flaws. We are all human beings, and all of us want to be appreciated and loved.

BDSM in Fifty Shades of Grey

I was channel surfing and came across the edited version of Fifty Shades of Grey starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, and to my shock, I learned the movie is already five years old. Wow. Where does the time go? It seems like yesterday the film was playing at my town's one-screen theater, and it caused a bit of commotion. Why? Well, the theater usually plays only PG or PG-13 films, so a Rated-R flick was a big deal for a small midwestern town.

Rambling - BDSM In Books & Movies

It's another sleepless night, and with way too many thoughts in my head, here I am again writing a late at night rambling.

Recently, I realized that there way too many erotic romances out there. Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against these types of books. Over the years, I have read my share of steamy romances, so I understand the appeal. While browsing the small book section at my local Walmart, I noticed most of the romance titles were BDSM romances. And, no, I'm not referring to the trashy Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy by E. L. James. These books seemed to be better written. Or at least that's what I got from reading a few blurbs.

Return to Exercising and Sexy Sporting Wear

It's nearly midnight, and with nothing else to do, I thought I would write a short rambling, which is more or less an update on my weight loss journey. Well, thanks to many setbacks this year that I won't list here, I am currently back at square one. I haven't gained any weight over the last few months, but I haven't lost any weight either. I'm bouncing back and forth from 218 to 222. My diet is mostly healthy, minus the occasional diet soda, so that's not the problem. My main issue is finding the motivation to exercise, which I have been lacking. In the past, when I had exercised 30 minutes to an hour for 6 to 7 days a week, I dropped the pounds quickly, but I get distracted and fall off course. And jumping back into exercising isn't an easy thing to do. However, it's something that I'm going to have to force myself to do in the early mornings.

Romances, an Escapism for Men

Why is it the lonely hearts are the ones who read the most romance novels? Is it because we believe there is a soulmate out there for us? Are we just more romantic than others? Or is it a distraction from our loneliness?

Coffee, Halloween, and Dating in Los Angeles

It's nearly midnight, and I'm drinking a cup of Starbucks Italian Roast Coffee, which is supposed to taste like dark chocolate and roasted marshmallows. Maybe my taste buds have fallen asleep because all I can taste is the arabica coffee. And, no, the coffee isn't the reason why I am still awake. For those of you who haven't looked at the calendar, today is October 1st. Or what I like to refer to as the official start of the Halloween season, and anybody who knows me knows it's my favorite time of year. So, I spent my night watching Halloween (1978) and Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers on AMC.  Halloween isn't just my favorite season, it's also my favorite movie, and even though I own all the Halloween films on Blu-ray, I still get excited when it airs on cable. I can't explain why, but watching the movies makes me feel like a teenager again.

What Is The Best Noise Cancelling Headphones?

I've always had a passion for music. I am what you would call tone-deaf, as I cannot carry a tune. And I don't have the skills to play a musical instrument; though I can play some beats on a snare drum and, once upon a time, I could play "Silent Night" on a keyboard. I guess you can call me more of a music lover than anything else.

As a kid, I would listen to Walkman until the batteries died. During my teenage years, I jammed to a portable CD player and a loud stereo that annoyed my parents. Now, nearing the big 40, I mostly listen to digital music on my laptop, MP3 player, and, on occasionally, my cell phone.

Using Today’s Technology

Audiences today are becoming more and more discerning, as the world of media grows ever more fast-paced and sophisticated. While in years past it was enough for a speaker to get up to a lecture and go through a rote “point and click” slide show in order to engage a crowd, today’s audiences are demanding much more. Time is precious to today’s professionals, and no one wants to sit through a boring talk that offers little more information that can be gleaned by going through a book or magazine article. All of this is why event planning companies nyc and other major cities are becoming the go-to businesses for those who want to create an event that has major impact.

Using Today’s Technology

Advances in digital technology have made it possible for savvy event companies to produce major shows that communicate a message in a big way. With lights, sound, video and virtual settings, today’s events have the impact of a major motion picture, which goes a long way towards selling an idea or a product to an audience. It’s possible to make a major event that truly engages a crowd on many levels, and leaves them wanting more.

Should Small Online Businesses Be Taxed?

I've must have been hiding under a rock lately, as I wasn't aware about the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court decision that could force small business and bloggers out of business. The U.S. Supreme Court is deliberating the South Dakota v. Wayfair case, which could allow tax agencies to tax businesses without a physical presences (a.k.a. - an online business). A few online businesses are taking a stand against this, including eBay, who have recently started a digitally petition for sellers to sign; telling the Supreme Court how the outcome of this case can negatively effect us.

Whatever your online business is, I know that this news must be nerve-wracking for many people. While most bloggers and small business owners probably consider their online work as a "side-job," they probably rely on that income (small or large) to help pay a few bills. It doesn't help anyone when the prices of day to day things (foods, clothes, cleaning supplies) is still on the rise. Yes, new jobs have increased in the United States in the last few years, but for anyone living in a small town, finding a better job can still be difficult.

The country is in a nationwide debt for reasons that I won't list here, and so are individuals, who are stacked with credit card debts and medical bills (thanks to a fallen healthcare system). If you're up to your head in bills, there are other options. And, no, I'm not talking about bankruptcy!

There are Nationwide Debt Reduction Services that can assist you with your monthly bills. Lets be honest, debit reduction can be a big stress remover in your life. In many cases, the services can resolve your credit card debit. Nationwide Debit Reduction Services already has good relationships with most creditors, so they can help you get debt free as soon as possible. I believe there are no settlement fees until the creditors make an acceptable settlement offer.

To Try Online Dating Or Not?

Is it just me? Or is everyone else (and I mean those of us who are single) becoming a little depressed near Christmastime?

For those of you who don't follow my blog, I have suffered from anxiety and depression, though the two have seem to disappear over the last few years. Then around Thanksgiving the old symptoms started to creep back into my life.

I've been trying to keep myself busy with reading, writing, and posting stuff on this blog, as well as putting up a few videos on my YouTube channel. While I know some of my stress has come from writing posts for my blog's Holiday Gift Guide, I believe my depressed mood is mostly due to the little fact that once again I'm spending the holidays alone. Yes, I spend Christmas with my immediate family, but it would be nice if I had a special lady-friend in my life.

Probably the easiest way to feel better about myself is to attempt to find a significant other by puttin myself out there, but I'm not the most sociable person in the world because of my anxiety issues. Naturally, my next obvious step would be online dating! To be honest, I've tried out a couple of dating sites in the past with no luck, but maybe I should give another go at it.

However, my anxiety always kicks into high-drive every time I do a simple internet search for dating websites, as there are too many out there to choose from. Plus, if I do find a site that I like, what are the chances of me actually finding a female friend that is close to where I live? Do I put a profile on a free dating site? Or should I spend money on a premium website?

Interesting Device Statistics: Times, They Are a Changin'

The world has changed dramatically over the past few decades. One of the biggest reasons for the change has been technological innovations. Technology such as the modern Internet, WiFi, broadband, wired networks, cell phones, smart phones, tablets, laptops, e-commerce, GPS, and numerous other innovations have changed the world into a digital world.

The Digital World

The evolution into a digital world now allows people do almost any daily task online. People can go online to shop, pay bills, communicate with friends, socialize, look for a mate, listen to music, look at a movie, watch the news, watch a sporting event, download media, and a variety of other things. Twenty years ago it would have been hard to imagine the things people are doing now with the use of modern technology.

Interesting Device Statistics

With the popularity of mobile tech, here are some statistics that are simply astonishing:

1. Roughly 6.8 billion people use mobile phones. Amazingly that is almost 90% of the World’s population.
2. 56% of Americans own a smartphone.
3. 34% of adults own a tablet device.

What Is Your Book Inspired Vacation?

Yes, the summer months means "fun in the sun" to some and to others it means "vacation time." I haven't been on an actual vacation in at least fifteen years. Typically, not going on vacation doesn't bother me, but this month my body and mind are taking a hit for not taking a vacation.

After watching (well, more like listening) the film Austenland (based on the book of the same name by Shannon Hale) on Starz, where a woman takes a vacation at a Jane Austen-themed resort, I started wondering what would be my favorite vacation inspired by a novel.

A friend of mine has been to England and she is going there again in a few weeks, so maybe I should think about taking a trip there, as one of my favorite books is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, which is set during the Victorian era. Then again, I now know a bit of Italian, German, French and Spanish thanks to some audio CDs, so I could take an international adventure like the in the Dan Brown novels.

A Beginners Guide to the Wonderful World of Subtitled Film and Television

It may seem like a controversial statement, but in my ever so humble opinion the most interesting films released in the past decade have not been produced by the Hollywood big wigs or even the esteemed UK indie filmmakers, but further afield in Korea, Japan and continental Europe. And yet for so many, the world of subtitled entertainment remains closed off due primarily to sheer, old fashioned stubbornness. A common argument is that watching a subtitled film or show feels “A little like reading a book,” but this argument is completely void, as minutes into any good film, a strong reader will cease to notice that they're even watching the subtitles and will simply fall into the story and the characters. In fact, if you are still actively aware of the fact that you're reading the subtitles, then it's either a bad film or a bad translation.

Western audiences have not always been so hesitant to the idea of foreign cinema of course. In the 60's, cinema was still very much in its infancy and as such, there wasn't the sheer choice we have today. There was none of the reverse snobbery you might find today, so great cinematic masters like Fellini and Kurosawa ruled the screen and the Oscars were rife with films 'not in the English language'. It's only really in the last few decades that subtitled films have fallen out of favour with the masses and it's a real shame. What with the global box office success of the 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' films, however, that trend appears to be reversing. Below I'll take you through some of the films and shows that introduced me to subtitled entertainment; hopefully they can do the same for you.

Finding More Time to Read

Looks like I'm finally getting over the strep-throat, as I'm feeling much better tonight. I'm looking forward to watching Justified in twenty-minutes, but I may end up making a cup of coffee before it starts. I'll need that extra boost of energy, if I'm gong to do my daily workout later tonight.

Plus, I have two books, two DVDS and one Blu-ray reviews I would like to get written before I go to bed, which will probably be in the early morning hours.

I'm planning on starting some personal reading (books I have actually bought), but I'm not for sure what book to start with, maybe I'll start with one of James Patterson's novels or maybe one of the last few V.C. Andrew's novels (well the ghostwriter). I did receive The Undead Pool by Kim Harrison yesterday. I have all of the author's books, but I haven't gotten around to reading any of them. I like the fact that almost every title is a spoof on a Clint Eastwood film.

A Blogger's Worries

I'm multitasking tonight by halfway watching/listening to the newest episode of Arrow while writing a few blog posts/reviews. Yes, I know I said I was going to cutback on my reviewing this year, so I can  focus on my fiction writing, but my plans have changed.

I currently have two Blu-rays, two DVDS, a fan and five or six books that I need to write reviews for. Plus, I have three DVDS, one Blu-ray, a stack of books and two products that I need to either watch, read or test out, so I can then write more reviews.

Yes, at times blogging can become a little stressful, especially when you are behind in reviews, but I'm trying my best to avoid stress by exercising daily (normally at night). Every time a package is left on the doorstep, I keep wondering what my neighbors think, or the mail carriers, UPS driver or FedEx driver. The FedEx has already delivered two packages and UPS has dropped off four packages this week. Plus, I'll be receiving two packages by UPS tomorrow and one package by FedEx, the latter is either a DVD or Blu-ray, but I'm not for sure what the title is or if I even signed up to review it.
