To Try Online Dating Or Not?

Is it just me? Or is everyone else (and I mean those of us who are single) becoming a little depressed near Christmastime?

For those of you who don't follow my blog, I have suffered from anxiety and depression, though the two have seem to disappear over the last few years. Then around Thanksgiving the old symptoms started to creep back into my life.

I've been trying to keep myself busy with reading, writing, and posting stuff on this blog, as well as putting up a few videos on my YouTube channel. While I know some of my stress has come from writing posts for my blog's Holiday Gift Guide, I believe my depressed mood is mostly due to the little fact that once again I'm spending the holidays alone. Yes, I spend Christmas with my immediate family, but it would be nice if I had a special lady-friend in my life.

Probably the easiest way to feel better about myself is to attempt to find a significant other by puttin myself out there, but I'm not the most sociable person in the world because of my anxiety issues. Naturally, my next obvious step would be online dating! To be honest, I've tried out a couple of dating sites in the past with no luck, but maybe I should give another go at it.

However, my anxiety always kicks into high-drive every time I do a simple internet search for dating websites, as there are too many out there to choose from. Plus, if I do find a site that I like, what are the chances of me actually finding a female friend that is close to where I live? Do I put a profile on a free dating site? Or should I spend money on a premium website?

There are many dating websites for specific cities (such as Strathclyde dating or a Merseyside dating site), but that doesn't apply to me. There's even a dating website for Southampton singles. I reside in a small midwest town, so I'm basically out of options when it comes to these types of dating websites.

I guess I should probably figure out what character traits I'm looking for in a date first, and what sort of relationship I'm wanting (short-term, long-term, or marriage). I'm well aware that single men my age date younger women, but that's not me. I prefer to date someone around my age or slightly older. When I say older, I don't mean I'm interested in senior dating, so there's no need for me to be looking for senior dating websites. The perfect age group for me would be between 30 to 42.

Honestly, with only a week left until Christmas Day, I probably wouldn't have time to go on an actual date anyway, but it would be nice to know that there's a special woman out there for me.

  1. When I was single I always found the holidays depressing. My sister always had a guy and she used to shove him in my face every year. What they really need is a dating site for people who read. My husband doesn't read very often but he's super support of my book addiction. I know online dating is overwhelming but sometimes you have to give it a shot. I know this is going to sound crazy but have you considered meeting someone in the book blogging community? Maybe you have a reader who already follows you? With technology now it makes long distance relationships not so hard. The Holidays are hard but I find having family close and a good book was always my go to. You may not have time for a date but you have a chance to make a connection for New Years =D I'm rambling a little but I know all to well how you feel. I hope you have a wonderful holiday =D

  2. Thanks for your comment! Yes, it would be nice if there were a dating site for "book lovers." I don't know any single women in my area who likes books.
