Description:

The Rangers transform into Legendary Rangers from the past to battle Earth's Ultimate threat!

Billy's Thoughts:

While the Power Rangers franchise is in-between series (seasons), fans young and old can grab their hands on the recently released Power Rangers Super Megaforce: Earth Fights Back, the first volume of this year's season, which just ended last month.

The DVD features four episodes:

Super Megaforce - The Armada has finally invaded and Earth and the only way the Megaforce Rangers can fight back is to upgrade their powers to access all the Legendary Power Rangers.

Earth Fights Back - As the Rangers help to rebuild the Angel Grove, Troy (the Red Ranger) must try to stop Cybax and the X Borgs before the Armada fires missiles onto all the major cities on Earth.

Blue Saber Saga - Noah (the Blue Ranger) must train himself to be a master swordsman in order to defeat Skatana.

A Lion's Alliance - The Megaforce Rangers hop aboard the Sky Ship on a race against time to find the Red Lion Wild Zord.

Super Megaforce picks up exactly where the final episode of Power Ranger Megaforce left off, where the alien Armada has finally arrived on Earth. Robot Knight has disappeared and the Megaforce Rangers are outnumbered. Luckily, Gosei gives the Megaforce Rangers access to all the Legendary Ranger Keys, which means they can morph into any past Ranger, which doesn't make a bit of sense as the majority of the former Power Rangers powers were destroy in past series, but I guess this a fantasy shows for kids, so all logic is tossed out the window. While both Megaforce series (seasons) received mixed feedback from fans, the Super Megaforce season is still fun watch.

Similar to other LionsGates' releases from the franchise, there are only 4 episodes on this DVD. I know that there will be complaints from older fans that there isn't a full season release, but you have to remember that the series is aimed towards children and not adults and buying a $10 DVD is cheaper than buying a season set.

While I had mixed feeling about the first series (season), I enjoyed the Super Megaforce season as it was more of a throwback to the original series and you get to see some of the old Ranger costumes again. Overall, Power Rangers Super Megaforce: Earth Fights Back features four action-packed episodes that the entire family can enjoy. It would make a great stocking stuffer this Christmas for any fan.

Arriving on DVD last week was the Power Rangers Megaforce: Ultra Defenders, the fourth volume of from the 2013 season, featuring four action-packed episodes, as five ordinary teenagers prepare to protect Earth from a future alien invasion. There are no extras or special features featured on the disc.

The concept of using bits and pieces of scenes from a Japanese children series, may have seemed a little silly or even campy at first, but Saban's Power Ranger franchise has proved to be a television phenomenon with the 21st season currently airing on Nickelodeon and a 22nd series, Dino Charge, scheduled to air next year, as well as a big-budget big-screen reboot of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the works from Lionsgate.

Power Rangers Megaforce was the 20th anniversary season and is meant to be a throwback to the original seasons, setting the franchise back to the fictional Angel Grove and featuring teenagers as the Power Rangers. Mentored by Gosei and aided by his robot assistant, Tensou, the Power Rangers are trained to protect Angel Grove against an alien invasion. Along the way, they ally with the robotic Earth's defender, Robo Knight.

Review:

Its hard to believe the Power Rangers franchise turned twenty-years-old this past August and is currently in its 21st season with Power Rangers Super Megaforce. The premise of a group of teenagers becoming superheroes wearing tights and using giant robots, Zords, to fight giant monsters might have seemed a little silly at first, but the series caught on quickly and has continued to bring in new fans with every new season (well series). The franchise actually uses scenes, costumes, monsters and Zords from the Japanese tokusatsu Super Sentai franchise.

Similar to other children programs, only a handful of episodes (four or five) were released on single VHSs or DVDs or the year, but there has never been an entire full season actually released. Even the complete series of Power Ranges Samurai was missing a few episodes. Fans finally got their wish when Shout! Factory began releasing box-sets and individual season-sets in late 2012.

Being released today is the limited-edition box set of Power Rangers Seasons 13-17, featuring 166 exciting episodes on 21 DVDs and includes a 48-page booklet. As an added bonus, exclusively for this box-set, is a bonus disc, featuring:

The Power Rangers franchise is kicking off its 21st first year with the DVD release Power Rangers Megaforce: The Mysterious Robo Knight, containing four exciting adventures. As an added bonus there is a Mega Bloks Micro Red Ranger Figure (toy for kids 5+) with each DVD.

Power Rangers Megaforce debuted last February on Nickelodeon, introducing new and old fans to a new generation of Power Rangers - Troy Burrows (Red Ranger), Noah Carver (Blue Ranger), Emma Goodall (Pink Ranger), Gia Moran (Yellow Ranger) and Jake Holling (Black Ranger). The five Angel Grove teenagers are summoned by Earth's supernatural guardian Gosei (sent to Earth by Zordon) and his robot assistant Tensou to become the Megaforce Rangers. Their mission is to stop the Warstar aliens from attacking Earth, but they can't stop the forces of evil by themselves, as they must make an alliance with the mysterious Robo Knight.

The Power Rangers franchise just turned twenty-years-old a few months ago and Lionsgate is releasing a holiday DVD release today titled Power Rangers Super Samurai: A Christmas Wish featuring the episode "Stuck On Christmas," along with the classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episode "Forever Friends" and "Alpha's Magical Christmas." Also included is the special feature "Mega Bloks Holiday Toymation."

"Stuck On Christmas" finds the Samurai Rangers battling a terrifying Nighlok named GRED, but during the battle the Megazord malfunctions and they are trapped inside it for Christmas, which they were suppose to spend with their Mentor Ji. The episode includes  flashbacks to previous episodes.

"Forever Friends" originally aired in November 1994 during the second season of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Kimberly and Aisha's best friend Shawna is kidnapped by Goldar, but before the Rangers can rescue her, Lord Zed sends his newest creature, Jaws of Destruction, to destroy them.

[DVD Review] - Power Rangers Megaforce: Ultimate Team Power

Believe it or not, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series premiered twenty years ago today, and the franchise is still going strong with the current series airing on Nickelodeon. On September 3, 2013, Lionsgate will release the first DVD volume of the new series, titled Power Rangers Megaforce: Ultimate Team Power, containing the first four episodes of the 20th season.

Review:

The Power Rangers mania continues with Lionsgate releasing Power Rangers Samurai: The Ultimate Duel on DVD this Tuesday, July 16, which is the final volume in the first season. (The second season was retitled Super Samurai.) I received a complimentary copy of the DVD in exchange for my honest review. Today is a perfect time for me to post the review as the franchise airs on Nickelodeon on Saturdays, when it is not on hiatus.

The Samurai Rangers (Jayden, Kevin, Emily, Mia, Mike, and Antonio) have no time for a day off as the Master Xandred's powers are slowly returning and the Sanzu River is starting to seep into the real world, leading the Rangers to visit the Tengen Gate and retrieve The Black Box, the most powerful Samurai weapon ever to exist, which is a good thing as they must fight off the Nighloks, giant Moogers, web-shooting Arachnitor, a dream-invading Rhinosnorus, and the giant Spitfangs. To make matters worse, Jayden must have the ultimate duel with Decker!

DVD Review - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Complete Series

It doesn't seem like it has been twenty years since the Power Rangers were first on television, but the franchise will officially turn 20 this September. Over the last six months, I have had the chance to review several of the Samurai DVD titles from Lionsgate. I guess you can say I got in the mood for more Power Rangers, so I ended up buying the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Complete Series a few months back. Yes, I do realize the seasons' volumes have been slowly coming out on DVD, but I was interested in the two bonus discs that only come with the complete series.

Wow! I can't believe it has been nearly twenty years since the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers aired on television. The newest spin-off Power Rangers Megaforce is currently on hiatus, but new and old fans can look forward to the DVD Power Rangers Super Samurai: Vol. 4: Secret of the Red Ranger, which will be out in stores this Tuesday, June 11, 2013!

Master Xandred returns to Earth to destroy Serrator, who betrayed him, and of course he plans on destroying the Samurai Ranger, but he returns to the Netherworld in defeat. The Samurai Rangers have no time to rest as Serrator plans on destroying them with the help of a bug spraying Pestilox, giant Spitfangs, twin Papyrux, and a new Nighlok monster, Fiera. The Samurai Ranger's Shogun ancestors and mega modes may not be enough to survive the battle. Their only hope is for the Red Ranger (Jayden) to unveil his deepest secret, his sister.

Review:

It is almost hard to believe that the Power Rangers franchise is twenty-years-old this year. I think I was in the sixth grade when the original was on television. Just writing about it makes me feel old.

As Power Rangers Megaforce takes a hiatus on Nickelodeon, Lionsgate is releasing volume four of the Power Rangers Samurai titled The Sixth Ranger which will be released this Tuesday, May 14, 2013. I received an advanced copy free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

From left to right: The Gold Ranger ("Antonio," far left), the Pink Ranger ("Mia," left), the Green Ranger ("Mike," left center), the Red Ranger ("Jayden," center), the Blue Ranger ("Kevin," right center) and the Yellow Ranger ("Emily," right) star in Lionsgate Home Entertainment's Power Rangers Samurai: The Sixth Ranger - Volume 4.

The release introduces Antonio Garcia (played by Steven Skyler) as the Gold Ranger in four action packed episodes. At first glance he looks the average young fisherman and tech junkie, but as a young child he trained side by side with the Red Ranger, Jayden. Though he isn't a Samurai descent, he made a promise to Jayden to help the Samurais if needed, which isn't easy as he must prove himself to the other Rangers and to their sensei, Ji.

Review:

It’s hard to believe that the Power Rangers franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. It is making me feel old as I remember when the original series aired. I watched the occasional episodes of the original series up to the In Space series, but I tuned out because the constant cast changes. I wasn't aware that there was a new series on television, until I reviewed two other DVD titles early this year. Lionsgate recently released Saban's Power Rangers: Clash of the Red Rangers: The Movie onto DVD this month and I was sent a complementary copy in exchange for my honest review.

Clash of Red Rangers originally aired in November 2011 on Nickelodeon as an hour special that teamed up the six Samurai Rangers with the RPM Ranger Red. The plot involves the RPM Ranger Red chasing the robotic villain Professor Cog from the RPM alternate universe into the real world, where the Samurai Rangers are fighting the newest Nighlok called Sharkjaw, who runs away in defeat. Cog finds an entrance to the Netherworld as he wants to use the water to destroy the humans in his own universe. To get the water he agrees to help Xandred's Nighlok army in defeating the Power Rangers.

Grinders attack the Samurai Rangers and the rangers only win because RPM Ranger Red used his nitro blaster to destroy the Grinders. The Samurai Rangers gladly accept their new friend, though Jayden has a few issues with him. Cog returns with several Grinders leading the Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink, and Gold rangers to be zapped to the RPM universe. The Nighlok are building a huge army to invade earth and only the two red rangers are left to stop them, but only if they can work out their differences.

Power Rangers Samurai Morphin Onto DVDs on Tuesday, January 15th!

Back in 1993 the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted on television, which is the US version of the Japanese series Super Sentai. I was in the sixth grade at the time and I didn't even know that the show existed until I was part of a tutoring program for kindergartens, where I was assigned a five-year-old to tutor. All the kid wanted to talk about was the Power Rangers. Eventually I started watching it at 6:30 in the mornings so I could understand what the kid was talking about. I continued to occasionally watch it until the of Power Rangers in Space.

I only recently found out that there was a new incarnation on Nickelodeon. Out of curiosity, I recently reviewed two new DVDs - Power Rangers Samurai: Volume 3 A Team Divided and Power Rangers Super Samurai: Volume 3: Rise of the Bullzooka, which both will be coming out from LIONSGATE on January 15th at the list price of $14.95 each.
