Its hard to believe the Power Rangers franchise turned twenty-years-old this past August and is currently in its 21st season with Power Rangers Super Megaforce. The premise of a group of teenagers becoming superheroes wearing tights and using giant robots, Zords, to fight giant monsters might have seemed a little silly at first, but the series caught on quickly and has continued to bring in new fans with every new season (well series). The franchise actually uses scenes, costumes, monsters and Zords from the Japanese tokusatsu Super Sentai franchise.
Similar to other children programs, only a handful of episodes (four or five) were released on single VHSs or DVDs or the year, but there has never been an entire full season actually released. Even the complete series of Power Ranges Samurai was missing a few episodes. Fans finally got their wish when Shout! Factory began releasing box-sets and individual season-sets in late 2012.
Being released today is the limited-edition box set of Power Rangers Seasons 13-17, featuring 166 exciting episodes on 21 DVDs and includes a 48-page booklet. As an added bonus, exclusively for this box-set, is a bonus disc, featuring:
These five seasons contains Power Rangers S.P.D., Power Rangers Mystic Force, Power Rangers Operation Overdrive, Power Rangers Jungle Fury and Power Rangers RPM, which are all part of the final seasons of the Disney-era of the franchise. For some fans, the series might have been difficult to find as the seasons aired on ABC Family, Toon Disney (now known as Disney XD) and on Saturday mornings on ABC.

After In Space ended in 1998 and I quickly tuned away of the franchise, mostly because I thought to the series was finished. I became interested in the franchise again after reviewing a few of the Power Ranger Samurai DVD titles, so seasons 13-17 were completely new to me when I began reviewing the box-set last month.
Yes, the Shout! Factory box-set may seem a bit pricey at nearly $130.00 retail, but if you divide it by 5, it is only $26 per season. Whenever the seasons are released individually, they are mostly likely to follow in the previous seasons sets format by being split into two DVD season-sets releases. Buying the box-set will save you a few dollars, plus the booklet and bonus feature disc are only available in the box-set.
The latter Disney-era had a mix-reaction with diehard fans of the franchise, but I think each new season (and cast) continues the fun fantasy adventures just like the early Might Morphin seasons did, only with slightly better special effects. The film quality isn't exactly crystal clear, but it looks decent on a HD TV.
Overall, I had a blast watching a handful of episodes in each season. Similar to the other Power Rangers box-sets, there are plenty of extras and interviews to intrigue fans. The Power Rangers Seasons 13 - 17 would make a great Easter Gift for any Power Rangers fan, young or old.
