Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop!
This Week's Prompt:
Do you ever get strange looks from strangers while browsing the book aisle in department stores? What do you think is going through their minds?╍Submitted by Billy, Coffee-Addicted Writer
My Answer:
No, you've got to understand, there’s rarely anyone down the book aisle. The only evidence of life might be a seasoned woman browsing through Harlequin romances, lost in a world of happily-ever-afters. It’s a chilling thought, really, to ponder how book reading is becoming a nearly obsolete pastime thanks to the relentless march of technology. It feels a bit like watching the last embers of a fire flicker and fade.

Yes it's sad when you think of it that way. I think that's why I prefer shopping at bookstores because then you are surrounded by readers surrounded by books, it's a little piece of paradise in a darkening world. I still love me a real book. Ebooks don't do it for me but I read them when it's more beneficial...mainly for indie reads and ARCs, but that's about it.

There are no bookstores in locally. There's new B&N in the city, but I haven't visited it. There's also a Half-Price Books store in the city. eBooks are easier; I don't mind reading a ARC eBook, but I will and will aways prefer print over digital.
DeleteYou may be right. I hope you are wrong.
ReplyDeleteI hope I am wrong.
DeleteIt's sad, but there is a new Waterstones book section opening in John Lewis stores so maybe there is hope. Overall though high streets here are dying. There are so many empty shops. The only things that really survives are coffee shops and even those have been closing recently.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
P.S this is my second go at sending this message so you might get two!
There are way too many coffee shops! I make my coffee at home.
DeleteI've never been to a John Lewis store.
I'm having a lot of trouble with the new link-up process. It opens another window, then I have to choose an image to either upload or link from my site/email, then it keeps saying that it can't handle the request and nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong, or is it just a really glitchy process? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt's a thumbnail linky; it's supposed to open in a small window. You can upload an avatar, your blog logo, or a book cover image-whatever you want to represent your blog. I haven't had any problems using it. What browser are you using? Are you using a pop-up blocker? Sometimes that can interfere. You can delete your cookies/cache and try again. Or try using a different browser.
DeleteThe BBH image on your blog is too large for the Linky to handle. I went ahead and added your link, compressed, and uploaded your BBH image as the avatar. If you encounter the problem again, just compress the image or rescale it by half and then upload it.
DeleteI'm more of a reader now that I was before, so I'm more likely to browse the book aisle these days. Have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteYou've got a point, I rarely see many people down the book aisle too. But then again, I still see a lot of people at the library and bookstores, so there's hope!
