{Sunday Post} — Dead Mountain, Memorials, and Raised by Wolves

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • At least the election is over. We're still waiting for the final House numbers, but everyone knows what direction it's going in. I'm just sick and tired of the political ads, naming-calling, and the cringy, out-of-touch cable news analyzers.

  • The plumber finally showed up. Everyone thing seems to be in working order now.

  • Thanksgiving is a few weeks away. I'm already stressed out, and my anxiety levels have skyrocketed. FYI: I don't like Thanksgiving; it's my least favorite holiday.

What Am I Reading?

I just started reading Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Asylum yesterday, and I'll finish it as soon as possible. At the same time, I'm also reading the nonfiction Hiding Mengele. Then, I'll move on to Lies He Told Me and Sleep Tight.

What's in the Mailbox?

Gallery Books kindly sent me a hardback copy of Richard Chizmar's newest book, Memorials, and the new trade paperback release of the author's 2023 thriller Becoming the Boogeyman, a sequel to Chasing the Boogeyman. I haven't read the first book, so I bought the paperback at Walmart yesterday.

What's New on the Bookshelf?

From two Dollar Tree stores, I picked up A Secret Princess by Margaret Stohol & Melissa De La Cruz, Voice of Fear by Heather Graham, and Cry Macho by N. Richard Nash, and Rough Justice #2 (Riders of Justice and Death Along the Cimarron) by Ralph Compton. The odd one of the bunch is probably A Secret Princess. Here's a fun fact: I love The Secret Garden. A Secret Princess is a mashup of The Little Princess (which I've never read) and The Secret Garden.

At Walmart, I got Chasing the Boogeman by Richard Chizmar, which I've already discussed, Dead Mountain by Preston & Child, and Raised By Wolves by James Patterson and Emily Raymond.

New titles on my Kindle are The Loving Spirit, Frenchman's Creek, and The Doll by Daphne Du Maurie, and Riding the Nightmare by Lisa Tuttle.

  1. Yeah, I've never been a fan of Thanksgiving either. My least favorite holiday as well. Glad the election is over as well, all the local government ads have been getting on my nerves as they are nonstop. So at least I'll get that break.

Nice new reads too! Lots of new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here's my StS

  3. I’m 60 years old and all my relatives who expected me to celebrate holidays I don’t love are gone. It is a relief. And I say this while all the while missing some of them.

  4. I'm sorry Thanksgiving stresses you out. 🙁 My son and I decided going to Thanksgiving at relatives' houses is too stressful, so we have a quiet dinner at home. Sometimes a friend or two might wander in because they couldn't take it at their family's dinner, or they were lonely. I used to have a Friendsgiving get together the day after Thanksgiving where friends brought leftovers and dishes to pass and we would all watch a movie together and play board games. I don't have the space to do that any longer, but another friend has taken on the hosting. It's great because you can choose people you get along with and the meal is low-key. 🍁

Wishing you a wonderful new week. ☀

  5. I'm so sorry that you're stressed out right now about Thanksgiving. All my family are dead so I don't have any holiday stress anymore. Kinda bizarre. I will just enjoy a long weekend of reading and whatever Thanksgiving-y foods I can have delivered.

I was waiting on a plumber last week, too! Glad that's behind us.

  6. I am sick of the political BS ads, naming-calling, and the cringy, out-of-touch cable news analyze too. Sadly there are a lot of people in the book community that are going along with this.

Those look like some neat thrillers and horror. Sleep Tight, The Herd, William, and Chasing the Boogieman all look intriguing.
    Have a great week.
