{Sunday Post} - Animal Farm, Evil Seeds, and The Woman in Cabin 10

Good Morning, Everyone! 

 

August is nearly gone, and I have yet to tackle the reviews for the books piled up on my desk. My September 1st goal won't happen unless I force myself to sit down and review seven books. (FYI: I've already read them.) These titles don't include Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Queen's Gambit, Bring Me Back, The Final Girl Support Group, and Star Trek: Picard: Rogue Elements. Reviews for those books are coming soon. Or as soon as I can get to them.

I need to clean my mind, relax, and write. I've done it many times before and can do it again. I'm stressing myself out too much. There are a million thoughts (more like worries) flowing through my noggin right now. I need to start scheduling posts ahead of time, and getting caught up is causing me to freak out a bit. 

The Book Blogger Hop is all set up for the next two months, so no worries there. I need to write reviews for four DVD/Blu-ray titles and then get cracking on the 007 book reviews for late September. I want to get everything written and scheduled for several weeks ahead. My grandmother is getting worse and worse, and the inevitable is around the corner. When that time comes, the last thing I will want to do is worry about this blog. 

 

What Am I Reading?

After finishing Star Trek: Picard: Rogue Elements, I changed my reading plans. Instead of reading Blue Man by John L. Moore or Billy Summers by Stephen King, I'm reading Brand New Cherry Flavor by Todd Grimson. The book has been calling my name ever since I bought the eBook on Google Play. Has anybody seen the Netflix limited-series adaptation? It's sick and twisted, and I loved every second of it. I don't recall the exact page number, but I read fourteen chapters on Friday morning. I haven't had time to read today (Saturday). The day is still young, so you never know.

What's in the Mail? 

There was absolutely nothing in the mail this past week besides junk mail. I'm supposed to be receiving a copy of The Noise by James Patterson, but it's been nearly two weeks since the book's release, and I haven't received anything. I'll contact my PR contact on Monday to see what is happening. It's probably a warehouse issue because of COVID-19. Or the book got lost in the mail.

What's New On the Bookshelf?

I picked up four books at the local thrift store - The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapen, Animal Farm by George Orwell, The Woman In Cabin 10 by Ruth Ward, and The Devil of Nanking by Mo Hayder. 

Animal Farm is one of my favorite books, and this will make the third or fourth copy in my collection. 

Originally, Bataum Press published The Devil of Nanking under the title Tokyo in 2004 by British author Mo Hayder, who sadly died last month. I have never read anything by her, so this book will  be my first whenever I get around to read it. 

I grabbed The Woman In Cabin 10 and The Couple Next Door as soon as I laid eyes on them. I've looked at newer editions at Walmart but never got the urge to purchase them. I am glad I never paid full price, as I got them for 10 cents each.

The only thing new on my Kindle is Evil Seeds: The Ultimate Movie Guide to Villainous Children by Vanessa Morgan. I'll be reviewing it on September 13th for a book tour. It's horror-related, so it's right down my alley.
