About the Book

Phil, Tim, and Dakota are three survivors taking refuge in Atlanta, Georgia. The year is 2027, ten years after a nuclear fallout decimated the known world and left it in shambles. With hordes of the undead flooding their once safe home and a city now depleted of all resources and supplies the three must make a daring gamble. To trek across the States and Canada, looking for a new place to call home; safe from the monsters that plague the lands.

In their daring gamble this trio encounters more than just zombies. They are relentlessly pursued and hunted by both an old and new nemesis’. Trying to survive and stick together, no matter the odds, they must rely on their faith, bond, and past experiences to live through their tribulations. In this world, a fool's chance is usually their only chance.

My Review

I've been fascinated with zombies ever since I was a four-year-old and saw the made-for-television movie The Midnight Hour, which had a creepy scene featuring a vampire, a werewolf, and zombies rising from their graves, so it should be a no-brainer to why I wanted to read Weeks (Book One).

Written by fellow Missourian Jasyn T. Turley, Weeks is set in an apocalyptic future where most of the world was either destroyed by nuclear warheads or killed by the damaged ozone layers. However, while their souls have died, their radiation bodies continue to live on in a zombie-like state, dubbed Bio-Radioactive Hostiles. Then there are the Bio-Radioactive Weapons, 52 monsters created by the government that revolted and now run amok.

The story centers around three survivors - Phil, Dakota, and Tim. We first meet the trio in Atlanta, Georgia and due to low resources, they trek across the states to Kansas City, Missouri, where they were hoping to catch a break and find a safe haven. Remember this is a horror science fiction story, so you can probably take a wild guess that things don't as planned, which results in the trio taking a journey to Canada.

Overall, Weeks is a well-written apocalyptic tale that gives a fresh new life to the overdone zombie genre. The characters are nicely fleshed out and most importantly - likable. The descriptions throughout the novel are excellent. Lastly, I love that majority of the setting is set in Missouri, which is my home state.
