  Billy's Answer

Most self-published books are badly written with many spelling and grammar errors. Out of the ones I have read, the plots are generic with one-dimensional characters. Every author needs a great editor! With that being said, I have nothing against self-publishing and I do occasionally review a few titles on this blog.

  2. I've read a few books that were self-published, but I guess most of them have used professional services to help them get to that point. But I can't recall ever reading a book that was a straight up SELF published job without use of any outside services to help the author.

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. I've read many self-published that were horribly written. They're full of grammar and spelling errors. There have only been a few self-published titles that I've actually liked, but I believe those had editors.

    1. Thanks! I designed the header and the new blog button myself. I used the graphic-design tool website Canva to make them.

I like Canvva, but sometimes find it difficult to maneuver.

    3. Yeah, it takes awhile to figure the website out. I've made so many graphics over the past year that it's now pretty simple for me to use.

  4. It might be easier to understand the importance of an editor when comparing work before and after editing))

    1. True. However, what I'm saying is the majority of the self-published books I've read have been poorly edited. The books are full of spelling and grammar errors, "telling instead of showing," and one-dimensional characters.

I've also seen some really bad writing from mainstream authors. One that comes to mind is Cari Mora by Thomas Harris (the author of Silence of the Lambs), which was published this year by Grand Central Publishing. The book is horribly written! One of the worst books I've ever read. The plot is intriguing but the execution is bad.

FYI: I'll be posting a review for Cari Mora soon.

  5. It's true there are some bad self-published works out there, but equally there are some really great pieces too, when you find good authors. Sadly, those bad ones mean others get tarred with the same brush.

  6. I agree that some self - published aren't well edited and they tend to distract me from the story a bit.

  7. Yeah, I know, some self published books need more editing. Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!

  8. That's definitely a struggle! I've run into a few that were horrible. But luckily for me, my good experiences have outweighed the bad.

  9. One of my coworkers self-published a book which I read an excerpt or two of, and was immediately turned off. It was so awful on all fronts. I am just glad he didn't ask me to read and review it on my blog. I would have said no.
