Review - Her Fear by Shelley Shepard Gray

I have been receiving several unrequested books this year, including Her Fear by Shelley Shepard Gray. I'm a fan of the author's writings, so I was thrilled to receive the book. However, since I didn't request to review the book, I put the title on the backburner for a few months, until I had time to read it.

Her Fear is the fifth book in "The Amish of Hart County" series. It centers around a young Amish woman named Sadie Detweiler, who is forced to leave her home by her father after he learned about her pregnancy. The baby's daddy want's nothing to do with the child, so Sadie is on her own. Sadie's cousins (the Stauffer's) takes her in; letting her sleep on a cot in the kitchen. 

Shortly after arriving, Verba Stauffer becomes very ill, which leads to the EMTs making a visit to the home. The Amish don't care for outsiders, but Verba is in need of medical treatment, so an exception has to be made. This is when Sadie first meets EMT Noah Freeman, who is instantly fascinated by her presence.

This is a love story, so naturally there is a strong connection between Noah and Verba, resulting in them becoming friends really quickly. The possibility of their friendship turning into romance has to be put on hold after several questionable deaths occur around the Amish community. Noah is determined to solve the mystery and protect Sadie.

I can't explain why I like to read Amish romances! I guess my reading tastes are a bit odd. I like horror, mysteries, Goosebumps stories, classics, crime thrillers, and romances. 

Similar to the other books in the series, Her Fear is a fast-paced romance mystery, which didn't take me very long to read it. Right from the first prologue paragraph, I was drawn into Sadie Detweiler's story. 

As an added bonus, there is a letter from the author, "Moonshine in Kentucky" article, "There Really Are Amish Fireman and EMTs" article, questions for discussion, and a sneak peek at the next book in the series in the very back of the book.

Overall, Her Fear didn't disappoint me one bit. It's beautifully written story with intriguing characters and a suspenseful plot.
