I had received an advanced readers copy of L.Ron Hubbard presents Writers of the Future, Volume 33 earlier in the year, but due to my lack of time, the book got pushed a side until I finally got around to reading it a few months ago. Instead of featuring it as a "Fall Reads" post, I decided to it feature it in this year's Holiday Gift Guide.
The late author L. Ron Hubbard started the Writers of the Future and the Illustrators of the
Future contest annual contest in the early 1980s. The winner's of the contests are featuring the annual anthology Writers of the Future: The Best New SF & Fantasy of the Year.

Ron Hubbard with illustrations by Preston Stone, nonfiction article "A Thousand Or So Words Of Wisdom" by Anne McCaffrey, the short story "Gator" by Robert J. Sawyer with illustrations by Joshua Meehan, the short story "The Dragon Killer's Daughter" by Todd McCaffrey (inspired by Larry Elmore's Crimson Dawn), and the essay "Notes On Art Direction" by Bobb Eggleton.
Overall, L.Ron Hubbard presents Writers of the Future, Volume 33 is a great anthology for any science fiction and fantasy reader. Personally, I liked all the stories in the book, but my favorite story out the anthology is "The Drake Equation." The book would make a wonderful gift!
