Billy's Thoughts:

While I grew up watching Beetlejuice (actually, I played the VHS to death and drove my parents crazy) and Batman (1989), but for some reason I overlooked Tim Burton's other classic, Edward Scissorhands, until I finally watched it around the time the first Pirates of the Caribbean film was originally released. 

Edward Scissorhands was given a "25th Anniversary Edition" Blu-ray release this year, featuring audio commentaries by director Tim Burton and composer Danny Elfman, a featurette and theatrical trailers.

Released to theaters back in December 1990, Edward Scissorshands, centered on Peg Boggs (played by Dianne Wiest), a Avon saleswoman who has had a hard trying trying to make a sale. After her neighbors shut their doors on her, she heads up to the abandoned Gothic mansion on the hill, where she meets a strange man with a pale face (as well as scars) and giant scissor-like hands. The man is named Edward and he was created by The Inventor (played by Vincent Price), who had died before finishing his hands.

Feeling sorry for Edward, Peg takes him home with her. While her husband, Bob (played by Alan Arkin), and her son, Kevin (played by Robert Oliveri), have no problem with Edward living with them, their daughter, Kim (played by Winona Ryder), wants nothing to with him, especially when she finds him sleeping in her bed after she comes from a trip with her friends (that was actually their introduction to each other). 

Before long the Boggs family realizes that Edward has a talent of trimming hedges and bushes into any shape. The neighbor housewives flock to him to get haircuts as well as to have their dogs' hairs trimmed. 

Sadly, this is a dark fairy tale, so eventually the town changes their opinion about Edward. Believing he is a harm to the community, they drive him back to the Gothic mansion, but not before Kim falls in love with him.

Edward Scissorhands is one of Tim Burton's best films. It's a sweet, funny, dark fairy tale with a sad ending. The picture quality on the Blu-ray looks great and makes the film look more colorful than ever. Overall, the Edward Scissorhands: 25th Anniversary Edition would make a great gift this holiday season for just about anyone.
