Review:

Nickelodeon has teamed up with PAPERCUTZ to publish a series of graphic novels based on their popular animated programs as well as bringing out the new Nickelodeon Magazine. The graphic novel Sanjay and Craig: Fight the Future with Flavor! was released back in September and now Breadwinners: Journey to the Bottom of the Seats will be released to bookstores tomorrow!

Breadwinners debuted on Nickelodeon in 2014 and has become one of the top-rated programs for kids aged two to eleven. The series centers on two anthropomorphic ducks named SwaySway and Buhdeuce, two best friends that live in the water-based planet Pondgea. They drive a rocket-powered van and deliver bread to the locals.

Written by Stefan Petrucha with illustrations by Allison Strejlau,  Breadwinners: Journey to the Bottom of the Seats features four exciting adventures:

Lotsa Tots - SwaySway and Buhdence must hop in their van and deliver Clammy Brioche Bread and Snails On Kale Brioche Bread to a customer in Tree City, but they have a slight problem when a monster-size bird decides to sit on top of the van and lay her eggs.

Journey to the Bottom of the Seats - SwaySway and Buhdence are having a blast on their joyride, well that is until their van's engine breaks down. Luckily they were able to pull the van to Ketta's auto-shop. It turns out there is something wrong with the engine as a clan of rats have made their home in it.

Clown Down - SwaySway takes Buhdeuce to a carnival, so he can help him overcome his fear of clowns. Unfortunately, they fall asleep in the house of mirrors and wake up after closing time. To makes matters worse, there is an evil clown lurking about in the carnival.

Mission Suspicion - Chief Rambamboo accuses SwaySway and Buhdeuce of stealing a rare portrait of the Bread Maker (made out of bread) by the famed artist Vincent Van Dough from the Ducktown Museum. Of the course the guys had nothing to do with the crime, but Chief Rambamboo doesn't believe them and is convinced they are the thieves.

While I've seen a few advertisements for the Breadwinners series, I've never seen a single episode, so I didn't know exactly what the graphic novel would be about until I started reading it early this morning. The characters are wacky and fun. Each story is fast-paced and entertaining. The illustrations in all four stories are colorful and full of energy. Overall, Breadwinners: Journey to the Bottom of the Seats is a cute book that kids will enjoy reading.

About the Author:

Born in the Bronx, Stefan Petrucha spent his formative years moving between the big city and the suburbs, both of which made him prefer escapism.

A fan of comic books, science fiction and horror since learning to read, in high school and college he added a love for all sorts of literary work, eventually learning that the very best fiction always brings you back to reality, so, really, there's no way out.

An obsessive compulsion to create his own stories began at age ten and has since taken many forms, including novels, comics and video productions. At times, the need to pay the bills made him a tech writer, an educational writer, a public relations writer and an editor for trade journals, but fiction, in all its forms, has always been his passion. Every year he's made a living at that, he counts a lucky one. Fortunately, there've been many.
