Review: Daniel X: Lights Out

In recent years, bestselling author James Patterson has ventured into the young adult genre with his mega-hit Maximum Ride series as well as s the science-fiction series Daniel X, which the final (?) book in the series was released over the summer, titled - Daniel X: Lights Out.

The series focuses on a teenager named Daniel, who witness the death of his parents by the alien criminal known as The Prayer. His parent's were actually alien-bounty hunters and after their deaths, he takes over where they left off by tracking the most wanted aliens. Actually, he's always one step ahead of the criminals because he has the power to create anything he can think of.

Unfortunately for Daniel, this time he is the hunted as The Prayer (a giant cockroach) has come to Earth to finish the game once in for all. Daniel has nobody to turn to help him, not even his best friends that he creates with his power can save him from his destiny.

While the Daniel X series is written for middle graders & young adults, adult readers can also enjoy it for the fast-pacing action scenes. For me, I've always thought Daniel X felt more like an anime movie than a book. With a three-year gap in between sequels, I guessing that fans were on pins and needles waiting for the this installment. Overall, Daniel X: Lights Out is an intriguing and entertaining read that both kids and adults will enjoy.
