Review:

Now available to own on Blu-ray is real-life crime story True Story. Directed by Rupert Goold, the film stars Jonah Hill, James Franco and Felicity Jones. Special Features include an alternate ending, deleted scenes, The Truth Behind True Story, The Making of True Story, Who Is Christian Longo?, Mike Finkel Featurette, Director's Audio Commentary and a gallery.

Based on true events, True Story centers on journalist Michael Finkel (played by Jonah Hill), who was recently fired from The New York Times for embellishing a story. After feeling like a failure, he returns home to Montana where his wife Jill (played by Felicity Jones) lives. He attempts to bounce back into journalism, but no newspaper or magazine wants to hire him.

Out of nowhere, he learns that the recently imprisoned murderer Christian Longo was claiming to be Michael when he was caught. Thinking that it would make a great story and possibly save his career, Michael begins to visit Longon in prison. On murder charges for killing his wife and kids, Longo claims that he is innocent and asks Michael to help him tell his story to the world.

Michael starts to believe Longo's tale and pitches it to a publishing company, whom is interested in publishing a book about Longo written by Michael. Things take a twisted turn when the trial starts and Longo pleads not guilty for murdering two of his children, but pleads guilty for killing his wife and his daughter.

I'm not he biggest fan of crime thrillers or dramas, but I like both the stars of this film, so I thought I would give it a try. Being unaware of the true events the film is based on, I went into this film with an open mind and I enjoyed the movie for the most part. Both Hill and Franco gives good performances, but the film's pacing could have better. Overall, True Story is a compelling, but slightly boring true crime movie.
