Review:

Arriving on DVD and Blu-ray this coming Tuesday, May 20, 2014, is the supernatural thriller Way Of The Wicked, directed by Kevin Carraway and starring Vinnie Jones (X-Men: The Last Stand, Snatch) and Christian Slater (Stranded, True Romance).

By the DVD cover and the tagline, "An Unholy Secret and Inhuman Evil," I thought the film would be an old-fashioned horror movie, but instead Way Of The Wicked is a teenage supernatural romance in the vein of Twilight and Beautiful Creatures. Christian Slater is billed as the star of the film, but he is barely on screen maybe five to seven minutes.

The film centers on a teenager girl named Heather Elliott (played by Emily Tennant). She is fascinated by a new student, Robbie (played by Jake Tennant), whom she was friends with years ago, until another student was mysteriously attacked, resulting in Robbie moving away. Heather is intrigued by him, which causing problems with her boyfriend Greg.

Of course a death occurs, in which Heather's detective father John (played by Vinnie Jones) investigates the murder and the prime suspect is Robbie, but there isn't any evidence, except for Father Henry, who thinks Robbie is some sort of devil spawn.

Vinnie Jones and Christian Slater both give decent performances from an uneven script, but the rest of the cast are mostly bland; something you would expect in a B-horror film. The romance plot is a ripoff of Twilight, while the rest of the script borrows elements from the Omen and Carrie. There are never any scary moments throughout the film and besides from a few f-bombs, the movie could have been rated PG-13 instead of being Not Rated. The twist at ending could be seen a mile away. Though there is nothing original going on here, I found the film to be slightly entertaining compared to all the recent horror remakes.
