Tis the season to try new products! Well, at least it is on my blog, where I have been fortunate enough to try many amazing products during 2013. With today being the last day of my first Holiday Gift Guide, I wanted to feature the new Instavac Green Earth Storage Set from Ozeri. There will many Christmas dinners, which people normally make a little extra just in case an unexpected family member or friend shows up, but most of us end up with many leftovers, in which you probably use plastic wrap to cover all the plates and bowls. Yes, plastic wrap can be useful, but it can only preserve your food for so long.
I like cooking; therefore I have owned many different kinds of storage sets over the years, from Tupperware, Rubbermaid and other cheaper brands, like the ones you find for less than ten dollars around Black Friday. Most of these don't exactly seal properly, except for Tupperware, but their not exactly long lasting, as the lids eventually crack.
When I signed up to review the Instavac Green Earth Storage Set, I didn't realize how the big the containers would be until I received the set in the mail. The storage set includes 8-BPA Free pieces, so there are four containers and four lids - 21 cups (5.0 liters), 12.27 cups (3.0 liters), 6.3 cups (1.5 liters) and 3 cups (0.7 liters). Besides from the size of the containers, I also noticed the high quality of plastic used.
As I mentioned above, the storage set is BPA free, but it also stain-resistant and shatter-proof. It is also freezer, microwave and dishwasher safe, so you don't have to worry about the container melting or warping in the microwave.
The containers are simple to use:
Unlike many other food storage containers, the Ozeri Instavac Green Earth Food Storage Set is guaranteed to maintain the freshness of the food being stored. The simple and effective valve makes it easy to push out the unwanted air and seal the container properly. There is a neat wave pattern on the bottom of the containers that will help raise fruit and vegetables from water and juices. There are four different sizes, which you can basically store any kind of meals you have leftovers from. The smallest container would be perfect for storing a sandwich. Snap all four of the lid’s handles into place.
Put the valve in the sealed position (open the valve and then close it.)
Using either thumbs or forefingers from both hands, press down on center, releasing all the air from the container.
The green vacuum indicator in the center of the valve will pop down and give off a whistle. This means the container is properly sealed.
Set the date dial located on the valve to save the day of the month. This way you can track how long the food has been stored.
