Review - Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

AMAZON
There's probably many great books I've come across at one time or another in stores but I never picked them up based on their titles or covers. I recall seeing Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty at several Walmart stores when it was first published in 2014. However, the cover didn't appeal to me, so I never gave the title another thought. It wasn't until after I'd watched the HBO limited-series adaptation that I became interested in reading the novel.

Big Little Lies begins with a murder that occurred at the Pirriwee Public School's trivia night. Then the story quickly flashes back six months before the event. The plot mostly focuses on three different women - Madeline, Celeste, and Jane.

Madeline is a mother of three, with the oldest being from her first marriage. Chloe is the youngest who's about to start Kindergarten. Most mothers would be excited (and a bit scared) about their child starting school, but Madeline is more worried about having to deal with her ex-husband and his young wife, Bonnie, as their daughter, Skye, is about also going to be attending Kindergarten with Chole.

Celeste is an at-home mother of twin boys, Max and Josh, who will also be attending Kindergarten at Pirriwee. From everyone else's viewpoint, Celeste has the prefect life with the perfect husband, Perry, and their wonderful sons. However, what's unknown to the world is Perry is an abusive control freak who takes his anger out on Celeste.

Jane is the youngest of the three main characters. She's a single mother of one son, Ziggy, who wanted to start a new life by moving near the beach. Ziggy is also attending Kindergarten at Pirriwee. Jane has been keeping a dark secret about her son - Ziggy is a product of rape!

On the morning of the Kindergarten orientation, Jane befriends Madeline and Celeste, which is a good thing as she needs all the friends she can get after what happens next - Ziggy is accused of bulling another student, Amabella, who happens to the daughter of Renata Klein, a rich socialite who overreacts to just about everything.

The orientation incident begins a domino effect for these three women which comes to a collusion course during trivia night!

Blu-ray Review: Savage Beach (1989)

*This is a sponsored review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Mill Creek Entertainment; Amazon
There's nothing better to do on a rainy Sunday morning than watching a low-budget action flick!

To be more specific, I'm referring to 1989's Savage Beach or otherwise known as known as the fourth installment in the "Bullets, Bombs and Babes" series from the late (and great) director Andy Sidaris.

Savage Beach was released on July 9th on Blu-ray (R; 95 minutes; $19.98) for the very first time by Mill Creek Entertainment, featuring a 4K Widescreen Restoration. Additionally, Picasso Trigger was also released on Blu-ray. (Read my review for it here!)

Like the previous two films (A Hard Ticket To Hawaii and Picasso Trigger), Dona Speir and Hope Marie Carlton star as Donna and Taryn, two beautiful L.E.T.H.A.L. agents who are out to stop some really dumb villains. The plot centers around the search for a sunken WWII ship that was carrying gold. After Donna and Taryn crash their plane on a deserted South Seas island, the duo intertwines with a group of terrorists who are in searching for the long lost treasure.

Along with two Navy commandos and a really old WWII Japanese soldier, the L.E.T.H.A.L. agents are determined to stop the bad guys.

Bonus Features include:
  • Introduction by Director Andy Sidaris
  • Audio Commentary
  • Behind the Scenes Featurette
  • Trailers

Blu-ray Review: Picasso Trigger

*This is a sponsored review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Mill Creek Entertainment; Amazon
Probably almost every male teenager from the '80s and '90s remembers the Andy Sidaris' "Bullets, Bombs and Babes" (also known as the "Triple B" series) that began with 1985's Malibu Express and ended with 1998's Return to Savage Beach. The 12-film series were known as "so-bad-it's-good" to many fans, mostly thanks to the extremely low-budgets, over the top action scenes, tons of female nudity, outrageous characters, bad acting, and cheesy dialogue.

Mill Creek Entertainment started releasing the "Triple B" films on Blu-ray this year for the very first time with a 4K widescreen restoration. The first two films, Malibu Express (read my review) and Hard Ticket To Hawaii (read my review), were released back in April. And now the third and fourth films, Picasso Trigger and Savage Beach, were released last week.

Picasso Trigger (R; 99 minutes; $19.98) centers around the crime boss Salaza's quest to eliminate the L.E.T.H.A.L. agents, starting with the double-agent Picasso Trigger who was assassinated in Pairs. The ditzy heroines Donna and Taryn (played once again by Dona Peir and Hope Marie Carlton) are assigned to take out Salaza and they fail miserably. Along with agents Travis Abilene and L.G. Abilene (played by Steve Bond and Guich Koock), Donna and Taryn are determined to take out Salaza and all of his henchman no matter what it costs.

Bonus Features:
  • Introduction by Director Andy Sidaris
  • Audio Commentary
  • Behind the Scenes Featurette

Sunday Post / It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @  Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Date.

Good Evening, Everyone!

Have you ever overexerted yourself?

Well, I've definitely overexerted myself over the last few days. If you haven't already noticed, this blog got a major redesign last week. It all started on Monday night when I was fooling around on Canva. and ended up making a new blog header. I liked it so much that I decided to redesign the entire blog to match the header's color scheme. Then I had to fix a few broken things. Overall, it took me "literally" the entire night to redesign everything. I didn't sleep at all, I just kept kept working to everything was finished.

*FYI:  I have a new blog button located in the right sidebar!

My bedroom has been cluttering up with junk for a long time now and I finally got sick and tired of it on Friday night, which is when I decided to clean out all the crap from underneath my bed. Throughout Saturday afternoon I took everything out of the room (except for everything that's in the closet), tossed things I didn't want anymore into the trash, and rearranged all the furniture. While I was lifting up the mattress, I knocked a wooden shelf from the wall. Yes, the wall was damaged a bit, so I had to repair it and reinstall the shelf to a different location, which was a pain the neck as the shelf is heavy. Since I was moving everything around, I installed a new cable wire with cable stables to the southside of the room, this way the old TV is actually in front of my bed instead of being shoved in the corner collecting dust.

I didn't finish cleaning the bedroom until nearly 2AM this morning. However, I didn't fall asleep until around 5AM; meaning I slept in to nearly noon. Let's just say I'm extremely store from moving everything around!

What Am I Currently Reading?

I didn't have very much time for reading last week. I read a big whopping 38 pages of IT by Stephen King early on Friday morning. I'm planning on reading more this week and I'll also be reading Gooseubmps SlappyWorld: The Dummy Meets The Mummy! by R.L.Stine.
