Blu-ray Review: A Vigilante

This week marked the Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital release of the drama-thriller A Vigilante ($22.98; R; 91 minutes). Written and directed by Sarah Daggar-Nickson, the film first premiered at South by Southwest in 2018. Saban Films picked up the U.S. distribution rights and released the film earlier this year.

The film stars Olivia Wilde as Sadie, a woman who had barely escaped the wrath of her abusive husband (played by Morgan Spector). Unfortunately, her young son was killed during the aftermath. Since that  night, her husband has went off the grid and is on the run from the authorities.

Still grieving and broken, Sadie teaches herself boxing, martial arts, and other survival skills. She uses these new abilities to help protect other battered women and abused children.

The only Special Feature on the Blu-ray is the featurette Catharsis: Creating A Vigilante. The Blu-ray does come with a DVD and a Digital code.

DVD Review - Dead West

Arriving today on DVD from RLJ Entertainment is the crime-thriller Dead West. Edited, written and directed by Jeff Ferrell, the film stars Brian Sutherland, Megan Karimi-Nasar, and Jeffery Arrington.

The film centers on a charming outlaw (played by Brian Sutherland) traveling the back roads of Texas searching for his true love. Each time he believes that he has one the right one, he always finds some sort of flaw; disappointed, he ends up killing the woman with a pocket knife.

Unfortunately for the "ladykiller," one of his first victim's brother, Tony (played by Jeffery Arrington), is on the hunt for him, and will do anything it takes to get revenge!

Arriving on DVD this Tuesday, August 12, 2014, is the crime-thriller Rage from Image Entertainment. The film is directed by Paco Cabezas and stars Nicolas Cage (Leaving Las Vegas), Danny Glover (the Lethal Weapon films) Rachel Nichols (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and Peter Stormare (Fargo). Special features include: The Making of RAGE, deleted scenes and an alternate ending.

Nicolas Cage plays Paul Maquire, a businessman, husband and loving father, who has a deadly past. Late one night, the unthinkable occurs - his teenage daughter, Caitlin (played by Aubrey Peeples) goes missing. What looks like a kidnapping, turns into murder when his daughter's body is found near Tokarev Russian gun.

Paul shoves his wife (played by Rachel Nichols) away, as he reunites with his old buddies, Kane (played by Max Ryan) and Danny (played by Michael McGrady) to seek out who murdered his daughter, which includes starting a war with the Russian mob.
