Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop!
This Week's Prompt:
What’s the fastest or slowest you’ve ever finished a book?
My Answer:
I can speedread, so I can zip through a book faster than most. However, I prefer to take my time because I find that I fully appreciate the characters and the story when I do. Honestly, I could easily finish a 300-page book in about an hour if I really pushed myself, but that's not my preferred approach. Now, does Outlander hold the record as my slowest read? I began reading it back in 2014, and my bookmark is still sitting inside! I promise to finish it…one day. Honestly, my reading pace depends on how engaged I am with the narration and characters. When I'm truly hooked on a book, I can read it in one sitting. But if my interest is lukewarm or the story drags on, it might take me several days to finish. With life's commitments, some books just end up taking me longer to complete.

I agree there are so many other factors to consider when it comes to how long it takes to read a book. Pacing, enjoyment, and even format like a page's layout can effect my speed. My current read has small font, next to no line spacing and very small margins so there's a lot of text on the page! Lol. Still enjoying the story so that's what matters but I sometimes wish I could read faster just so I can get to next book faster!

I agree—it isn’t about how fast you finish a book, but how much you enjoy the journey. I hope Outlander finally gets its turn one of these days! Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteIt is easier to complete those compelling books in record time. Yeah, I don’t blame you for not speed reading when you’re reading for pleasure. Honestly, some great books slow me down because I want to savor them.
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm a speed-reader, too...a speed-reader who is always happier when she slows down.
ReplyDeleteI had difficulty with many different definitions of fast vs slow reading, ahaha. Number of sittings? Number of days? Time in hours?
ReplyDeleteI know I used to sit down and just zip through books all in one go, and that would be easier... these days my reading is so much more bitty. I'm like you, an hour would be fine for a 300 page book, probably. Alas, though, my attention span has not been great in recent years, so finishing in one sitting is rare -- I'm jealous of your focus!
It depends on what's going on, but I usually take three days. One time it was six - another time two.
ReplyDeleteFinishing a book in an hour is TOTALLY AWESOME and AMAZING, Billy!!
