• Saturday - The KC Royals won their Wild Card Series; Game One vs. the New York Yankees is late this afternoon. 

• Despite a horrible offense, the KC Chiefs have won their first four games. Let's hope their luck continues Monday night. 

What Am I Reading? 

I'll be finishing Will1am by Mason Coiler over the weekend. Then, I'll move on to Clive Cussler's Ghost Soldier by Mike Maden and Sleep Tight by J.H. Markert.

What's in the Mailbox?

Last weekend, I received Dean Koontz's newest thriller, The Forest of Lost Souls, which I ordered from Amazon. Then, this past week, I received a finished copy of Space Hollows: First Transmission by B. R. Louis—I already posted my review a few days ago—and an ARC of Hunterlore by Dana Claire.

What's New on the Bookshelf?

On Thursday, I visited two antique flea market-type stores and spent more money than anticipated. I bought a few music CDs—I'm probably the only person that still listens to these—movies—yep, I still buy DVDs and Blu-rays—and lots of books.

First is Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Continuing Mission by Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens, a 10 x 12 hardback that I probably overpaid at $12. When I say overpaid, I later found it listed on eBay for $5 in "fair condition," but it's also selling on Amazon for $20. The cover has a bit of shelfware, which I might be able to remove with a little cleaning; besides that, the book's in excellent condition. It's a behind-the-scenes coffee table-type book, first published in 1997 for the tenth anniversary of TNG. 

A few months ago—or whenever the last time I was at this store—I almost picked up a novelization of the James Bond film Goldeneye by John Gardner but decided not to because the cover had some damage. The book was still there on Thursday, and for only $1, I got it.

For $4 each, I picked up T2: Infiltrator by S. M. Stirling, Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Devil's Heart by Carmen Carter, and Star Trek: The Next Generation: All Good Things... by Michael Jan Friedman.

I need to write a list on my phone of William W. Johnstone titles I don't own so I don't accidentally buy duplicate copies. I picked four more of his titles—credited to his niece J.A. Johnstone, but written by ghostwriters—The First Mountain Man: Preacher's Purge, Slaughter of the Mountain Man, The First Mountain Man: Preacher's Inferno, and Brannigan's Land. 

 

I hesitated about getting Preacher's Purge because it sounded familiar. However, I grabbed it anyway, just in case; as it turned out, I already have a copy, though this one is in slightly better condition. FYI: These books were $1.37 apiece.

Additionally, I picked up several 50-cent Westerns: Ralph Compton titles: The Guns of Wrath by Tony Healey, Riders of Judgment by Ralph Cotton, The Saltwater Trail by Jackson Lowry, North to the Salt Fork by Dusty Richards, The Hellbound Posse by Robert J. Randisi, The Winter of Wolves by Royal Harding, Bullet Creek by Peter Brandvold, Showdown at Two-Bit Creek by Joseph A. West, and The Shadow of a Noose by Ralph Cotton; and Midnight Rider by Ralph Cotton, The Guns of C.C. Ellis by Ralph Cotton, and Crossfire Trail by Louis L'Amour.

The local Salvation Army thrift store continues to be a complete mess with junk tossed about everywhere. The book section is shrinking week by week. I picked up one 10-cent paperback, Impact by Douglas Preston, and one 10-cent magazine, Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine - June 1975 Edition.

New titles on my Kindle are Marilyn Monroe: The Private Life of a Public Icon by Charles Casillo, Make Love! The Bruce Campbell Way by Bruce Campbell, Demogorgon by Brian Lumley, Trigger Mortis by Anthony Horowitz, and A Spy Like Me by Kim Sherwood.
