{Sunday Post} — The Bootleggers, Old Bones, and Wizard at Large

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • Happy Halloween!

What Am I Currently Reading?

By the time this post is published, I should've finished Tom Clancy's Weapons Grade. Today, I should probably begin After Midnight by Karin Slaughter next, but The Secret—the new Jack Reacher thriller—is calling my name.

What's in the Mailbox?

I received an ARC of Kathleen Fine's Girl on Trial on the day that I posted my review for it. The ARC was late, and I read an eBook copy the day before. While I liked the book, it's something I won't read again; I'll probably end up donating it.

Gallery Books sent me a copy of the newly released Losing Spring by V.C. Andrews (ghostwritten by Andrew Neiderman). On Friday, I received The Secret by Lee Child and Andrew Child courtesy of Random House.

My Hamilton Books order came in on Monday. The titles are Full Throttle by Joe Hil, Old Bones by Preston & Child, and The Fifty-Year Mission: The First 25 Years by Edward Gross & Mark A. Altman.

What's New on the Shelf?

The Family Dollar/Dollar Tree hybrid I occasionally visit finally got in new books. Out of the slim pickings, I got The Tenant by Kathrine Engberg and The Daughter's Tale by Amanda Lucas Correa.

Between two Dollar Generals, I picked the following paperbacks: Tom Clancy's Target Acquired by Don Bentley; The Solomon's Curse by Clive Cussler and Russell Blake; Sixkiller, U.S. Marshal: Dead Man Walking by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone; Day of Independence by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone; and Riding Shotgun by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone.

I had planned on skipping Salvation Army this week but stopped there any way on Tuesday when I was out and about. I'm glad I did because I found the paperback novelization of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace by Terry Brooks. I also got Return to Atlantis by Andy McDermott, Empire of Gold by Andy McDermott, Rage by Ken Shufeldt, Rebellion by Ken Shufeldt, and Somebody's Daughter by David Bell.

At an antique flea market, I bought Wizard at Large by Terry Brooks for $1. At my local library, I grabbed A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena from the "free" section.

At a different antique store, I bought Robert Ludlum's The Altman Code by Gayle Lynds for $1, The Bootleggers by Clive Cussler and Justin Scott for $4, and Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King for $5.

Now, I know what everyone is asking: "Don't you already own Full Dark, No Stars?" The answer is: Yes, I do, but it's a large-print edition, and I don't like large-print books. I'll be donating my old copy.

Have you ever heard of a thrift store giving you "free" books? Well, that happened to me at the humane society thrift store. I grabbed $8 worth of books, took them to the checkout desk, and the employee told me I could have them for free since I was regular and had donated books and a few other things.

The "free" titles are Tom Clancy's Full Force and Effect by Mark Greaney; Robert Ludlum's The Ares Decision by Kyle Mills; Tom Clancy's Net Force: Breaking Point by Steve Perry; Robert Ludlum's The Utopia Experiment by Kyle Mills; Tom Clancy's Command Authority by Mark Greaney; Red Storm Rising: The Cardinal of the Kremlin by Tom Clancy; and The X-Files: Ruins by Kevin J. Anderson.

FYI: Yes, this is my second hardback copy of The X-Files: Ruins.

New titles on my Kindle are The Return by Bentley Little, The Birds & Other Stories by Daphne Du Maurier, Survivor Song by Paul Tremblay, Ramses the Damned: The Reign of Osiris by Anne Rice and Christopher Rice, and The Good Guy by Dean Koontz.

  2. Terry brooks! I met him at a signing once. Those older books are fun. The Tenant looks good too.
