{Sunday Post} — Back Roads, Cross Her Heart, and Obsessed

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • I hate this humid summer weather. I wish Fall would hurry up and get here already.

  • I have continued to have allergy and congestion issues. Thursday and Friday were rough days for me though I was better by Saturday afternoon.

  • It seems the rain weirdly avoids my town, but on the plus side, there hasn't been severe weather here. Well, except for the 14th, when a five-minute windstorm hit. One big tree branch got knocked down.

  • The Kansas City Royals are 28-72. At this rate, I highly doubt they'll win 45 games by season's end.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I just started reading The Only One Left by Riley Sager, and I've liked what I read so far.

What's in the Mailbox?

I don't recall the exact day, but I received three graphic novels from Vault Comics: Door to Door, Night by Night: Volume One, and West of Sundown: Volumes One and Two. I had already reviewed Door to Door, Night by Night via a PDF ARC last Monday. I already own a copy of West of Sundown: Volume One (which I've already reviewed this year), and I'll be reviewing West of Sundown: Volume Two tomorrow.

Little, Brown, and Company sent me a copy of Obsessed by James Patterson and James O. Born. Two weeks ago, I received Goosebumps SlappyWorld: Friiight Night by R.L. Stine, which I ordered.

What's New on the Shelf?

I picked three paperbacks at Dollar Tree: Red Ruckus by Brett Cogburn, Lethal Game by John Gilstrap, and You Betrayed Me by Lisa Jackson.

Last Monday, I got the following books at the thrift store: Cross My Heart by Sarah Pinborough, Hunting Badger by Tony Hillerman, Dance Hall of the Dead by Tony Hillerman, The Warlord of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and Kill as Directed by Ellery Queen.

At a flea market, I picked up The Forgotten Girls by Sara Blaedel and Roping Lions in the Grand Canyon by Zane Grey.

My local library had quite a few "free" books; I grabbed Back Roads by Tawni O'Dell, Dark Scared Night by Michael Connelly, The Road to The Dark Tower by Ben Vincent, and Stephen King: Uncollected, Unpublished by Rocky Wood with David Rawsthorne and Norma Blackburn.

  1. Yeah I am sooo ready for fall as well! We had a minor break in humidity yesterday where it wasn't as high but that's going to soon be forgotten after this week when our temps get even higher with a higher humidity level. So basically, I will be staying inside this week!

Nice new reads! These are all totally new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy each and every one of them!

  2. Sorry about the Royals. My Reds are doing way better than I expected.

  3. I think I'm ready for autumn too! I like summer but in recent years it has started sweltering for far too long.

  4. I'm not a fan of humidity. I love summer but I'm also ready for the fall cooloff. Ooh nice pickup with the Warlord of Mars. That's the editions with the Michael Whelan cover (not my favorite cover of his but some of fabulous). The Zane grey too...

That's a shame about the Royals. I feel the same way about my red Wings (different sport but still)...
