[Review]—"5000 Blankets" is a Heartwarming Film

The incredible, heartwarming true story 5000 Blankets will arrive exclusively in theaters on December 12 and 13 only from AFFIRM Films (a Sony Company).

Amin Matalqa is the film's director, and Matthew Antonelli and Larry Postel wrote the script together. Anna Camp, Carson Minniear, Kim Myers, Rob Hallett, Cindy Hogan, and Rob Mayes are among the cast members.

Inspired by a remarkable true story, 5000 Blankets (PG-13; 92 minutes) is an uplifting film—that emphasizes the power of family and faith. After Cyndi Saunders' husband, Bobby, suffers a mental breakdown and disappears, she and her young son, Phillip, search for him on the streets, inspiring a city and igniting a movement of compassion for people in need.

"Mommy,” he said. “Are you warm?” “Yes, baby, I'm warm.” “Is Daddy warm?” he asked. And then the then 7-year-old son asked about everyone else – the people on the street and in the shelters. His mom told him the truth: “No, not everyone is warm."

Phillip and his mother founded Phillip's Wish, a non-profit organization in Fort Worth, Texas, to collect blankets for the homeless. The organization collected 200 blankets in the first year and almost 20,000 blankets by the fourth year.

Moms, you won't want to miss this movie! See this movie with your family and be motivated to give back to your community, as this mother and son did in real life.

I went into this movie with an idea of how the plot would play out, but I was wrong. I was expecting a pleasant family comedy, but instead, it was a drama that dealt with depressing topics like mental illness and poverty while also imparting moral lessons.

The performances have some ups and downs; Anna Camp stands out for offering an emotionally charged portrayal; the rest of the ensemble does their best, but occasionally some actors' performances border on the cringeworthy. Besides that quibble, I couldn't find anything negative about the movie.

Overall, I liked the directing and thought the cinematography was excellent for a low-budget film. You don't want to miss this heartwarming story coming to theaters on December 12 and 13. Get your tickets today! ╌★★★½✰
