{Sunday Post}—The Girl in the Castle, Mayhem, and Slappy, Beware!

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

Hello, fellow bloggers!

  • I'm giving Disney+ a try. Thor: Love and Thunder is one of the worst Marvel movies; it's terrible. Obi-Wan Kenobi was entertaining. The Mighty Ducks: Game Changer is silly and enjoyable. Hawkeye has exceeded my expectations after three episodes.

  • Yes, dreams do come true. The now-former president of baseball operations of the Kansas City Royals, Dayton Moore, was fired by John Sherman, the CEO of the KC Royals. Cal Eldred, the pitching coach, should be fired next.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I had finished reading 28% of Lily Anderson's Big Bad as of Friday afternoon. It's a brand-new Buffy the Vampire Slayer book. When you read this, I will most likely have finished it. I'm going to read Goosebumps: Slappy, Beware! by R.L. Stine over the weekend; I had to order it because the Walmarts in my area don't stock Goosebumps books. It won't take me very long to read it. Then, I'll be simultaneously reading the paperback version of Dangerous Beauty by Melissa Koslin and the eBook Treasure State by C.J. Box.

What Has Arrived in the Mail?

The Munsters Blu-ray by Rob Zombie was graciously supplied to me by UPHE. On Thursday night, I saw the movie, and let's just say it was an interesting experience. Before starting to write my review, I will watch the making-of featurette and listen to Rob Zombie's commentary. I can't publish my review till September 27 due to an embargo.

Robert Ludlum's The Blackbriar Genesis by Simon Gervais was supplied to me by G. P. Putnam's Sons. Expect my review the following month since the anticipated release date is October 18th.

Taylor Moore's Firestorm, a book I'd wanted to read but couldn't get locally, came as a pleasant surprise in the mail. Who sent me this book? I received a belated birthday gift from an east coast friend.

What is New on the Shelf?

Hey, my Walmart got one new book this week: The Girl in the Castle by James Patterson and Emily Raymond. (Let's not kid ourselves; we all know Emily Raymond penned the book.) I guess Walmart just received one copy of the book, or the book was quickly sold out.

At the library, I discovered Mayhem by Sarah Pinborough on the "free" bookcase. According to the blurb, the Torso Killer, a serial killer, is being sought after by Scotland Yard.

The paperbacks at Dollar General have been very strong lately. Typhoon Fury by Clive Cussler and Boyd Morrison and The Bourne Evolution by Brian Freeman were both $3 apiece. I purchased Best of Enemies by Gus Russo and Eric Dezenhall at a Family Dollar/Dollar Tree hybrid on either Wednesday or Thursday. It's not my usual fare, but the blurb piqued my curiosity. The author Diana Gabaldon's endorsement of The Queen of Crows by Myke Cole as "a heart-wrenching, blood-racing, all-around page-turner" was the only factor in my decision to purchase it at my local Dollar Tree.

  1. Sorry to hear Thor was disappointing! I'm about 4 Marvel movies behind...I've somehow gotten into the idea of watching them in their release order. I just haven't found time to sit still long enough for a 2+ hour movie. I think the next one I need to watch is The Elementals? Or something like that. Then I need to buy the Spiderman movie due to the whole dispute with Disney and Sony.

Nice new reads! Those are new to me ones! I'm curious about your Buffy read! I'm loving that Buffy is returning to the spotlight these days! It's awesome! Hopefully the book is too!

    Happy Reading!
