{Sunday Post} - A Time to..., Cemetery Road, and The Old Man

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Bloggers!

It's Saturday at 10:46 PM. I just finished sipping coffee while my mind analyzed a twenty-seven-year-old episode of The X-Files

  • My good ole allergies have been acting up, probably due to the extreme humidity.

  • Gnats have taken over my home! It seems like every year, these pests show up like clockwork and then vanish into thin air. Thank the heavens for apple cider vinegar and Hot Shot

  • The KC Royals are 43-65 but aren't dead last. They're in 4th place and only 14.5 games behind. Whit Merrifield got traded to the Tronto Blue Jays. Karma?

What Am I Reading?

I have read one chapter of The Bourne Sacrifice by Brian Freeman, and so far, it's not too bad. I told myself to take a "Trek break" after finishing Star Trek: The Return but ended up reading one & half chapters in Star Trek: Avenger.

I never got around to listening to Long Live the Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw, so that's something I need to do this week. Sitting down to read a book is easy, but finding time to listen to a 6+ hour audiobook is a whole 'nother story.

What's in the Mail?

RLJ Entertainment sent me White Elephant on DVD. I watched the movie on Wednesday night and will work on the review today. After not finding The Old Man by Thomas Perry at Half-Price Books, I ordered the hardback from Hamilton Books for $5.98 (plus $4 shipping). (FYI - The paperback on Amazon is priced at $14.40.)

More Star Trek Books

I've been hoping and wishing Simon & Schuster would put the Star Trek: A Time to... miniseries in their monthly 99-cent sale, but it hasn't happened since I've started buying Trek eBooks. There are nine books in the series - A Time to Be Born, A Time to Die, A Time to Sorrow, A Time to Harvest, A Time to Love, A Time to Hate, A Time to Kill, A Time to Heal, and A Time for War, A Time for PeaceFirst published in 2004, the books take place between the films Star Trek: Insurrection and Star Trek: Nemesis. I've been keeping my eye on the series for quite some time on eBay and finally found all the books at reasonable prices.

What's New on the Bookshelf?

Once in a great while, the local Dollar General will get in $3 hardbacks. The books are in a box on a bottom shelf of a random aisle. I accidentally found them this week, and out of the few select titles, I picked up Cemetery Road by Greg Lies and Redemption by David Baldacci.

Simon & Schuster added two more Star Trek titles to their monthly 99-cent sale - TOS: Agents of Influence by Dayton Ward and Voyager: The Farther Shore by Christie Golden. I already own The Farther Shore, so I only added Agents of Influence to my Kindle.

  1. I want to read a David Baldacci. My grandad used to like his books. Oh no for the Gnats! They are a pain - literally at times!

    Have a great week!

    1. I don't believe I've read his books before, though I've seen his books in bookstores throughout the years.

  2. We tend to get a hoard of gnats as well. Like the only time we don't get them is in winter. They seem to pop up into existence every time we buy fruit and they just multiple every day after. We use the apple thing too and it catches some of them, but they're still a pain when I'm sitting in the kitchen working all day.

Nice new reads! Our Dollar store rarely ever gets any books in either. And if there happens to be some, they usually aren't ones I would read. If they ever happen to be one I would read, it's because I've read it or it's in the TBR pile already! Lol.

    Happy Reading!

    1. I made a mixture of water, apple cider vinegar, dish soap, and sugar. It seems to be working. The gnats are mostly gone this morning.

My TBR pile keeps getting bigger by the week.

  3. Yeah, I'm sad the Royals don't do better. It was neat to see the reception Hosmer got at the K this week. He was a favorite player! Hope you have a good week, you've got some interesting new books!

    1. The fans have always been welcoming to visiting ex-Royals players. Hosmer was the Royals' highlight of the week. I'm hoping the new owner John Sherman will do some house cleaning in November, like firing all the managers and coaches.

  4. Wow that Star Trek music takes me back. Wish I could see that movie in theaters again. :)

I've always been curious what Shatner's writing was like.

    1. The 4K remastered Director's Cut of Star Trek: TMP was in select theaters in May. Sadly, it wasn't playing in my area. It's coming out on Blu-ray in September. The Director's Cut soundtrack came out on Digital (MP3) earlier this year.

Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens write Shatner's Trek books. He writes the outline, and they do the rest.

    2. Ah, I didn't realize that. Shouldn't surprise me they're written by someone else, I suppose. And ooh that Cut has my interest! m
