{Sunday Post} - Ali Cross, Mind Meld, and The Terminal List

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Everyone!

7/9/22 - Probably, drinking a Bang energy drink while having sleep deprivation isn't my best decision, but I need some way of keeping my mind functioning.

  • I had Blue & Yellow Limoncello flowing through my veins when I wrote a complaint about the unkept book section at my local Walmart, which is for some reason labeled as a "superstore." April was the last time the book aisle got stocked. They can change the retail price tags multiple times but never stock the shelves. Is it a warehouse shortage? I highly dought it. There are two other nearby Walmarts - a supercenter and a smaller one. Both of the stores keep their book aisles up-to-date with new titles. Hopefully, my complaint will get the ball rolling, and they will start unboxing and stocking their shelves.

  • My week was full of internet outages, all thanks to the folks at Mediacom. The outages were in several states, and many customers were complaining about it. I feel sorry for the people who work from home. According to Mediacom, they fixed the issue, which explains why the internet connection keeps going off while I am typing this post.

  • Will the KC Royals win on Sunday? Chances are slim to none. The Cleveland Guardians out-slugged KC 13-1 on Saturday. The Royals are currently 31-52 and only 14 games behind in the AL Central

  • Good News
    • My cold seems to be over.
    • The clogged drain is somewhat better. I poured more lye down it, and hopefully, that'll finish the job.
    • Despite the constant internet issues, I managed to write and post four reviews, which is an improvement for me.

What Am I Reading?

My "free" Kindle Unlimited trial ends on July 18th, so I'll attempt to read two C.J. ebooks, Back of Beyond and Badlands, this week.

What's in the Mail?

There was nothing new in the mail.

What's New on the Bookshelf?

Dollar Tree moved all their books to the front for their "weekly wow" sale. I picked up The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep by H. G. Perry and The Chicago Cubs: Story of a Curse by Rich Cohen.

I wasn't aware that there was a new Ali Cross book until I stumbled upon it at a Walmart in a neighboring county. It came out on either June 26 or 27. Also, I grabbed a paperback edition of The Terminal List by Jack Carr. I haven't had time to watch the television series adaptation on Prime yet, but I will soon.

Simon & Schuster needs to update their Star Trek eBook landing page on the 1st of every month, so I don't have to hunt down the 99-cent titles via Amazon. They didn't update their website until July 5th, which included one other Star Trek title - Mind Meld by John Vornholt. I've had this particular title on my wishlist for a while, so I was glad to get it for 99 cents.

  1. Internet cuts are very annoying. We are in the countryside in the UK and not only can we get internet cuts but signal cuts too so I can't even use my phone's internet!

It's also annoying when shelves aren't stocked.

    Hope next week is better!

    1. I can understand there are 'hotspots' during the summer, but when there are multiple outages in several states, there have to be other issues at bay.

  2. That's a bummer about Walmart. I know ours is bad about stocking shelves in general, but the book aisle is usually up to date...they just never have the new releases I want. There's two books I'd like to get in the fall as they are apparently "Walmart Exclusives" but I'm kind of scared my stores won't get them or put them on the shelves in time. One isn't even up for preorder yet so I can't even order online. Walmart is just frustrating altogether!

Nice haul though! I still need to see this new Spiderman movie. I'm just 1 Marvel movie behind to be caught up for this one. Still ticked that for whatever legal reasons that Disney+ can't play these Spiderman movies. I don't understand the issue all that well. So I probably won't get around to this one until Black Friday when I hope it goes on sale so I can buy it!

Hope you enjoy all your new goodies and reads!

    1. For many years (pre-Covid), Walmart has only gotten in only the top ten bestsellers or "trending" authors. They no longer carry fantasy, horror, or science fiction paperback as they did during my childhood. I understand that eBooks have a factor in stores shrinking their book departments, but that's no excuse for not stocking the bestsellers. Target is higher in their prices, but at least they have a decent size book department. Sadly, there isn't a Target near here.

I believe STARZ owns the cable rights to the Spider-Man movies, and Netflix owns the streaming rights, though I could be wrong. I didn't care much for No Way Home. I haven't seen the new Doctor Strange movie. It comes out on Blu-ray/DVD at the end of the month. I've heard good and bad things about the new Thor movie.

    1. It's only frustrating when I'm working on my blog or wanting to stream a movie.

  4. Ugh my stupid Centurylink internet was giving me fits all day on Wednesday. Glad to hear your cold is gone and the sink clog is almost gone. I just had to buy a new plunger this weekend cuz I noticed ours was cracking and probably no longer creating much of a suction.

    1. I need to buy a better plunger. The one I have is a cheapy and it doesn't work well with toilet.

  5. Oh I hope that Walmart will address the issue soon. Have a great week ahead!
