Reaching the front a long queue marked "Congolese Mature Female," Anna May was given the opportunity to shake the hand of a reclining nude—dark skin oiled to a shine, eyes drugged down to half mast, breasts small with nipples as long as rubber bands—but instead she burst into tears.

My Thoughts

Due to the possibility of getting winter weather that can cause internet or power outages, I'm writing this post a few days ahead of time. For this week's Friday 56, I'm featuring an unusual (and unique) sentence from Delayed Rays of a Star by Amanda Lee Koe, a book that I recently purchased for $1.25 at a local Dollar Tree. It's a historical fiction story about American-German silent film star Marlene Dietrich, Chinese-American actress Anna May Wong, and German photographer and film director Leni Riefenstahl. The three women had a chance encounter at a Berlin soiree in 1928 when photographer Alfred Esienstadet took a photo of them. As of this writing, I haven't started reading it yet, but more than likely, it'll be my next read.

I genuinely cherish the thoughts and insights of my readers, and I wholeheartedly welcome your engagement. However, to foster a truly constructive dialogue, I’ll be keeping a careful eye on the comments section. This means I’ll be moderating to weed out any spammy detritus, overly harsh critiques, or contributions that don’t add anything meaningful to the conversation. Think of it as my little corner of the internet—a space where everyone can share their perspectives without the noise. Let’s make this a place where ideas can flourish and grow, rather than wither away in the shadows of irrelevance.
