{Sunday Post} - Halloween Kills, Out of the Rain, and Revival Road

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Everyone!

Don't you just love when everything you had planned for the week never comes to function? That sums up this past week for me. I woke up on Monday with a stiff neck and shoulder, which got worse and worse by the day. It's a pinched nerve that comes and goes as it pleases. Taking a wild guess that my memory foam pillow has something to do with the pain. It has been bothering me lately. I've looked for a replacement, but the stores in my area aren't carrying pillows of any kind. I guess it's another post-pandemic hiccup. I would prefer not to order a new one online, because more than likely I'm not going to like it. I need to psychically touch a pillow to determine if it's the right one for me.

Typing a simple review has been difficult for me. Besides the pain, my passion for writing wasn't there. None of the movie reviews that I discussed last week got finished. The only review post I wrote was for the Revival Road novel. Reading was a no-go for me until Friday when I started the novelization, Halloween Kills.

Tomorrow (Sunday), I have an appointment to get the Covid-19 booster shot. I have yet to a regular flu shot. I have no plans for Halloween. I'm not giving away candy to the trick-or-treaters. I'll turn off the lights and pray they don't ring the doorbell. I bought four pumpkin pie pumpkins. If I feel like it, I might roast some pumpkin seeds.

The nursing home has been shut down for two weeks because an employee tested positive for Covid-19. So, I haven't seen my grandmother in quite a while. Her prognosis is the same. She has her good days and bad days. Last I heard, she weighed 98 pounds.

When you live in a small town with only four "main" stores, it's big news when two stores have to close their doors less than 24 hours apart. The local Dollar Tree was briefly closed after someone drove a vehicle through the front glass. I heard at least one woman got hospitalized after getting hit in the head by debris. The store reopened the next day with plywood covering up the damage. The Dollar General store was also closed during the week (and still is). They're remodeling, and I couldn't be happier. The building is old and falling apart. There's no room to move around because there are too many boxes stacked up in aisles. And the place is filthy! I'm wondering if a healthy inspector had something to do with the sudden "remodel." Somebody on Facebook said the store would reopen on Nov. 4th.

What Am I Reading?

My Stranger Things bookmark is inside Goosebumps Slappyworld: Judy and The Beast, and I'm hoping to get this read tomorrow. Next, I'm reading Out of the Rain by V.C. Andrews (ghostwritten by Andrew Neiderman). Then, I'm finally going to read The Living Dead that I've been talking about for two weeks.

What's in the Mail?

Gallery Books sent me The Umbrella Lady along with Out of the Rain, even though I've already reviewed the first title for them early this year. I had requested an ARC of Out of the Rain, so I guess someone decided to send the first book, too. I'm not complaining at all. I was just surprised when I opened the package and found two books instead of one.

What's New On the Bookshelf?

I had preordered the novelization of Halloween Kills by Tim Waggoner many weeks ago. It was to be published on October 19th but got delayed to the 26th. Like I already mentioned, I started the book on Friday, and I finished it this afternoon I'll be posting a review for it sometime on Sunday. (FYI - I'm writing this post on Saturday afternoon.)

  1. Oh no sorry about the pinched nerve. That sounds incredibly painful! I hope you get relief soon.

We had our Halloween tonight sort of since the township changed trick or treating to Saturday night. After the last few years when we hardly got anybody tonight we were were deluged.

I hope you are able to visit soon...

  2. Funny you mention needing new pillows as I was just thinking after two restless nights of sleeping myself that I need new ones. I'm definitely someone who needs to "try out" the pillow before purchasing as well. I'm always giving them a test squeeze and whatnot when in the store. Hope you're feeling better. I remember having a pinched nerve and it just being so painful to move and it lasted for quite awhile.

Nice new reads! Those are all new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

  4. I turned off my lights and hoped that no one would ring my bell on Halloween as well! Mission successful!

  5. Please take note that I'll post the Halloween Kills review tomorrow. I had some side effects from the Moderna booster shot and have been under the weather.
