{Sunday Post} - Fire and Blood, Star Trek: Coda, and Retrograde

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Everyone!

This past week went by super fast. Not a whole lot happened, except for the $20 Walmart-brand coffee machine quit, and I had to replace it with a $35 Farberware. So far, so great! It brews a cup of coffee in about a minute. Besides finding the purple Halloween t-shirt in my size, my week has been incredibly normal.

What Am I Reading?

After reading nine straight 007 novellas, I'm taking a slight break. Gallery Books sent me an ARC of Star Trek: Coda: Moments Asunder by Dayton Ward. I read 14 chapters last night, and most likely, I'll finish it sometime today. A principal character just got killed off, and I desperately need to know what happens next.

Star Trek: Coda is a three-part miniseries that will end the 'relaunch' book series that began in 2001. The 'relaunch' books took place after the DS9 and Voyager television series and TNG movies ended. Thanks to the new television series Star Trek: Picard, the Star Trek novels' continuity will end with the Coda trilogy. The plot involves a temporal anomaly, which I'm guessing will change the timeline and course-correct things to fit in with Star Trek: Picard.

What's in the Mail?

I already mentioned getting the Star Trek book, so there's no need to discuss it further. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment sent me an advance Blu-ray of The Forever Purge. I watched it a few nights back, and it's alright. Lionsgate Home Entertainment sent over the Twist Blu-ray, which I haven't watched yet. It's a modern take on Oliver Twist.

What's New On the Bookshelf?

I picked up Retrograde by Peter Cawdron at Dollar Tree. It's a science fiction adventure set on Mars.

I finally talked myself into buying Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin, the prequel to Game of Thrones. Why? I have no clue. I read the book from the library over two years ago. With the new HBO prequel series coming out next year, I might want to reread it. Plus, it makes my A Song of Ice and Fire collection complete. Yes, I said - complete! Let us face the facts, George R. R. Martin will never finish writing the final two books.

  1. I do also have serious doubts that those last two books will ever be written! I am intrigued by Fire & Blood though, isn't it basically a history book for House Targaryen? Glad the new coffee machine is working out, since nothing is as crucial to a good day as a good cup of coffee. Hope you have a lovely weekend and week :)

    1. Yes, Fire & Blood is a history of House Targaryen. It's actually Volume One, but I highly doubt there will be a second volume.

  2. I am despairing of ever seeing the final Ice and Fire books too. And I love that song. Nice version. I remember the one from Lost Boys, a favorite movie of mine.

Nine straight 007's? Wow. I just saw the trailer for the new movie when I went to see Shang- chi. not sure how I feel about craig as 007 but I love the old movies. :)

Yay for trek. I saw your comment on my blog- I'm watching the Original Series at the moment as past of my watch-a thon...

    1. I like Daniel Craig as 007, but his films are a bit too serious. I miss the 'fun' of the old 007s.

Most of the 007 novellas are under 200 pages, so rereading them was fast for me.

I've been watching random Original Series and Voyager episodes on Netflix. If the rumors are true, the Original Series, Voyager, and Enterprise will be leaving Netflix soon.

    2. Oh really? Ack if Trek leaves I'll have to watch my DVD's I guess... but I like the convenience of just letting them run on Netflix. Not crazy about the idea of them leaving...

      Same ehre w/ Bond.

    3. If you sign in to Netflix via a web browser, it lists the last days for the Original Series, Voyager, and Enterprise as September 30th. The same thing happened a few years back, but Netflix renewed their Star Trek license fee at the last minute.

I only have the Original Series on Blu-ray and the original 10 movies on DVD. One of these days, I'll have to buy the others.

    4. Oh no- Sept. 30th??? Ack. I better get watching in case they go then...

I've only got the Original series on Blu- -ray, just bought it recently. It's my favorite so I haven't bought any of the other series yet...
