Good Morning, Everyone!
3/13/21 - I hope everyone has had a better week than me. Well, I mean, it wasn't horrible, but I have had two canker sores for several days. If you have ever had a canker sore, then you know what I've been going through, and it's nothing good. The sores aren't bothering me too bad today, but I'm low on energy. I'm blaming the weather for my sickness, which also includes dry eyes. One day it's in the 70s, and the next day it's in the 30s with rain. Hopefully, Spring will hurry up and stay here!
At the beginning of the week, I had several blogging goals set in mind, but those didn't plan out. When I don't feel well, the last thing I wanted to do is write, so instead of staying up late to type, my mind, body, and spirit crash out before 9 PM. I have eight reviews I need to work on.
Update: I must be feeling better as it's nearly 11:30 PM as I'm editing this, and I'm not a bit tired. Or is it after midnight already? This Daylight Saving Time is already screwing me up.
What Am I Reading?
As you can see above, I'm currently reading The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton, the same book I talked about in last week's Sunday Post. To be more specific, I'll start reading it today. My original intention was to begin the book on Monday evening or Tuesday morning, but I ended up reading The Woman in Black by Susan Hill. What happened was I had put a hold on the eBook via OneDrive, and it became available for me to borrow, so my reading plans changed. The Luminaries is over 800 pages, and I'm hoping I'll have the energy to read it in two to three days because I need to review three Marisol Holmes books for a book tour on March 18th. Then I need to read and review The Mummy of Monte Cristo for an upcoming book tour on March 24th.

What's in the Mail?
I had ordered Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough shortly after watching the Netflix series. If I can find the time between other books, I would love to read this soon.
What's New On the Bookshelf?
For reasons I cannot explain, I bought The Woods by Harlan Coben. The paperback has been sitting on a shelf collecting dust at a Walmart since it came out last May. I've never read anything by the author and haven't seen the Netflix series.
While out and about this morning (Saturday), I picked up the paperback The Mad Scientist's Daughter by Cassandra Rose Clarke at a Dollar Tree store. Just by the title and cover, I grabbed the book and tossed it into the cart. The book section was bare-bones, and the only good title from the leftovers was The Beguiled by Thomas P. Cullinan, which I already own. I paid $13 for it two or three years ago and still haven't read it.
I also stopped by the thrift store this morning and found a 1948 Doubleday edition of Rebecca of Daphne Du Maurier with the dust jacket intact. I paid only 50 cents but noticed on eBay sellers are wanting around $15. I would love to own a first-edition, but they're going for $6,500 and up, which is way out of my price range.
I grabbed another copy of Dracula by Bram Stoker. It's one of my favorite books, and I have three or four different editions. Typically, the ones I come across at thrift stores are in bad condition, but this one is in good shape.
Paperbacks are only 10 cents, so I got The Library Book by Susan Orlean, even though I've heard many bad things about it. Last but not least is Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs, a book I hesitated about getting before grabbing it at the last second. I've seen all the old Tarzan films but have never read the original novels.
Hope you're feeling better. That definitely sucks. And good luck with the eviewing!
ReplyDeleteCurious to see what you think of Tarzan. I read a few of those back in the day, although I'm more familiar with his john Carter of Mars and Carson of Venus stories.
The time change always screws me up.
I hope you'll feel better soon. I also hope the weather settles to proper spring weather soon. I hope you enjoy your books. I miss going hunting for used books, hopefully soon I'll be able to go to one of my favorite charity shops. Have a great week!!
ReplyDeleteCanker sores suck. They're right up there with the sores you get when you burn the roof of your mouth too. Hate it. Hope they heal up quickly.
ReplyDeleteNice new reads! Totally new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

I so understand how the blogging plans can fail for no reason. I had such a week in February. May the spring bring you better days. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteI am busy with Behind her eyes and then I will watch the Netflix series. I love Harlan Coben and his books are always a sure hit.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week and I hope you will feel better this week.

Hope you have a good week and lots of time to read. I did like the Harlan Coben netflix series Safe. I started to watch The Woods but never finished it. Maybe the book is more compelling?
ReplyDeleteSorry you got canker sores. I never got any before, but it sounds terrible. I hope you get well soon!
