Sunday Post - If It Bleeds, The Outilers, and The Slimer

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Evening, Everyone!

After self-quarantining for over a month, I finally ventured out to do some shopping over the weekend. Wearing a facemask and gloves, I arrived at Walmart yesterday at 8:30 a.m. Let's just say the place was a madhouse and jammed pack with senior citizens, which is weird, as I thought the store was letting the elderly only shop an hour before my arrival. Nobody was wearing a face mask! You would think the elderly would be the ones wearing facemasks to prevent from being infected by the coronavirus, but that's wasn't the case in my neck of the woods. I did my best to do the six-foot rule, but it was difficult with other people literally running into me. People need to learn how to push a shopping-cart properly!

Here's a tip - Don't shop and text at the same time! Then maybe you can avoid running into an innocent bystander!

What Am I Reading?

The future of ARCs will be ebooks or digital galleys for the near future because of the current worldwide crisis; though things will probably go back to normal, eventually. Personally, I've accepted the current state we're living. All future requests, for the time being, I make towards publishers will be for ebooks or audiobooks.

I'm reading If It Bleeds by Stephen King. The publisher had sent me an ARC ebook last week.

I've only had time to read two stories in the Writers of the Future, Volume 36, so I'll put my full focus on it after If It Bleeds.

What's In the Mail?

As with the publishing companies, because of the lack of production, movie studios will switch from physical review copies and to strictly digital screeners. I know Lionsgate is already doing this and I believe Mill Creek Entertainment will do something similar to this soon.

Mill Creek Entertainment sent me the following titles - Ultraman X: The Movie, Trapped, Heroes, All the Pretty Horses, Eddie Macon's Run, and Unlikely Angel, with the latter title being the only DVD; the rest are Blu-rays.

What's New on the Bookshelf?

I picked up Revenge by James Patterson & Andrew Holmes while I was at Walmart. The novel came out two or three weeks ago.

While I was getting Mother's Day cards at Dollar Tree, I looked at the book section, which has seen better days. It didn't shock me that there were many bare spots because of the coronavirus. Previously, some titles have been there since the store first opened. The good news is eventually, the store will get in a new stock of and now they have space on the shelves for more books. The DVD/Blu-ray section is another story. It's still full of the Black Friday rejected titles that nobody will ever buy.

Anyway, I picked up one title at Dollar Tree - The Outliers by Kimberly McCreight. I'm not familiar with the author but the cover is creepy, so I decided it to get it.

About a week ago, I started following Valancourt Books on Goodreads, which is a small publishing company that reprints old horror novels. On Friday, Valancourt posted a message that their title Slimer by Harry Adams Knight was on sale for $2.99 on Kindle. Being the horror lover that I am, I jumped at the offer! After purchasing the ebook, I'd noticed Audrey Rose by Frank De Felitta was on sale for $1.99 from Hachette. Now, I already own Audrey Rose in paperback, which I found at a thrift store earlier this year, but I couldn't pass up the sale! Also, I got the sequel For Love Of Audrey Rose for $3.99.

  1. I don't understand the shopping either- so many don't seem to even be concerned with social distancing or taking it seriously. No masks! So bizarre...

Hope your reads and shows are good this week! Take care and be safe. :)

  3. I haven’t been to a store in over a month, but I’ve heard that they’re crazy here too. I need to read If It Bleeds. I planned on preordering it, but that didn’t happen. I hope you’re having a good week!
