Once upon a time, I was in sync with all the YA releases. Unfortunately, there are so many new titles coming out that I don't even attempt to keep with them. I had never even heard of 2015's Ideal High by Valerie Ipson until only recently, and unlike the slew of other YA titles that have supernatural plots, this one is grounded in reality. The plot centers around a high school, Ideal High, trying to pick up the pieces after a fire killed seven students.
Overall, Ideal High is well-written page-turner. The author does a great job taking on heavy subjects, such as grief and bullying. The characters are interesting, the plot & subplots are intriguing, and the dialogue feels real. It's definitely one of my favorite reads this year!
