  Billy's Answer

I used to read and review a lot of historical fiction titles on this blog, though I haven't done so too much this year. I love the genre but it has become a little over-saturated over the last few years. Not that there's anything wrong with hundreds of new titles being released each and every year. Personally, I can't keep up with all the new books (and authors). Also, I've read several novels that were missing detailed descriptions. If you're a historical fiction reader, then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Besides from an original plot and well-written characters, a good historical fiction read needs amazing descriptions!

  1. I'm not much of one myself either. There have been a few that I read that were a kind of paranormal historical fiction genre. But it was more about being set in the past and didn't put too much focus on historical events.

Though long long ago, before my blog I did read a few that were of the line of historical fiction and I remember enjoying them at the time, but I know there's likely zero possibility that I'd enjoy them now!

Also, did you change your header recently? I feel like it's new! It's very nice!

    1. I still like historical fiction! I just haven't been reading too many this year. When I have the time I would like to finish reading the first Outlander novel.

  2. I used to enjoy reading historical romances and historical fiction but as I've grown older my modern sensibilities have jarred against historic ones. ;-)

I hope you enjoy your weekend. Here's my BBH Post

  3. I find that if it depends on if there is a specific historical event that you are dedicated to. For instance I find reading about the events for World War II or the Holocaust and stories that tell those stories, really pique my interest.

    1. I'm not big fan of historical fiction set around WWII. I prefer to read about the Civil War or any story set in the 1800s.

  5. I enjoy reading historical fiction, particularly those centered around slavery and civil rights. For example, Kindred (Octavia Butler) and The Kitchen House (Kathleen Grissom).

  6. Yeah, I'm not really a historical reader, so I get the details thing is important. Which is why I mainly read historical as is one genre with another one in the book, like YA or romance, not straight up historical.

  7. Ooh, I definitely see what you're saying. It gets really difficult to keep up with new releases when the genre is booming. Maybe that's why I haven't really picked up too many this year? I love historical fiction and thinking about it here and now, I'm kind of like, wait, why haven't I read more in 2019? Dang, I've just had the realization that I am overwhelmed and now I'm babbling in your comments, haha!
