  1. Hello Bloggers,

As you can probably clearly tell, I made some slight tweaks to my blog this week, which included a few changes to the Book Blogger Hop. I would love to get everyone's feedback on the changes.

  2. Ooh nice! I like the new look of things! Very nice!!

As to the question itself, I admit I do subscribe to Owl Crate, but I've been known to skip a lot of boxes if I feel like the book is one I don't want to read really really badly. I've also bought the occasional Fairy Loot Box when I knew it had a book I really really wanted! Lol. That one's pricier though since it's UK based!

    Here's my Book Blogger Hop

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower :)

    1. I've heard of Owl Crate. I believe I might of seen a few Owl Crate unboxing videos on YouTube.

    2. Popping back to reply to your comment you left on my blog! I am really liking Slayer so far! Just passed the 100 page mark yesterday! It's interesting! It's been awhile since I binged Buffy but it seems to be taking place right around the series finale. Like the finale has already happened and we're 2-3 months later. It's really good so far!

  3. I think that's one of the reasons I've yet to commit to a bookish box! I have to know I'll get stuff I like or haven't read for the money.

    1. I know what you mean. I don't want to waste money on a book I have already own/read or on a book that I don't want to read.

  4. Well, I don't like change, and this is a big one, so I'm personally not digging the new layout and stuff at the moment (I'll come around in a few weeks I'm sure).

As far as the question, I don't subscribe to book boxes either.

Hope you have a great weekend. - Katie

    1. Thanks for being honest.

My blog's layout needed to be changed, due to some wrong coding done by former blog designer. Personally, I like changing things up once in awhile.

  5. We just decided to join this hop and this is so much fun! We subcribe to just Owlcrate right now.

  6. I like the layout, but my link doesn't appear to be showing up yet...

    1. Ah, there it is, it just took a little longer than usual.

    2. Today's my first time using the Mister Linky's Magical Widget. It takes a few minutes for the link to show up! The links will be listed in alphabetical order.

I made decision to switch from InLinkz to Mister Linky due to costs. InLinkz costs $2.99 a month, which is almost $36 per year. Mister Linky only costs $20 per year for the platinum membership.

  7. Nice blog change.

I can't add my link. Grrr. I'll try again.

I see it...I hope it doesn't appear multiple times.

    3. Now I will know for next week. THANK YOU. :)

  8. I don't subscribe to any book boxes...we have the library, right? :)

    And they are expensive.

    1. I believe book boxes are more of a "mystery," so you have no clue what you are getting until you unboxing it. The boxes look like fun, but they are expensive.

And, yes, libraries are nice and the cheapest route a book blogger can go - Free. I don't visit mine nearly enough.

    2. I go once a week, but I do have books from publishers.

I have been using LIBBY for audio more than print books.

    3. My town's library doesn't get very many new titles, so I don't visit very often. When I do visit, I'm just there to look at the used books for sell or the "free" books on the small bookcase in the lobby.

    4. We have two branches so we are pretty up-to-date.

    5. Lucky you! I live in a small town, so the new books the library receives are very limited.

  9. I've been hinting around about the BBH changes in a few Monday Morning Madness posts. However, not everyone reads those posts, so I decided to create the Book Blogger Hop Facebook Group. This way it will be easier for me to give all the bloggers updates on any BBH changes, like switching a prompt dates, etc..

  10. I will visit everyone's blogs sometime tonight.

  11. Well, to be honest, I prefer the bigger pictures with the other Linky widget. But you already know that I LOVE big pictures! LOL. The rest of the layout is basically the same, except for the font change, and the gradated tone of the background. I like them both! But I do miss those big pics..... :(

As for the question, I totally agree with you -- book subscription boxes are often pretty expensive! Of course, the lure of opening up a new box every single month can be a powerful one....hee, hee!! But heck, I really can't afford to subscribe, and it's not only because of the money, but because I'm running out of room on my shelves....LOL. Still, I'm glad these subscriptions exist, because they point to the triumph of printed books over e-books!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!

Thanks for visiting, and commenting on my own BBH post!! Have a GREAT weekend!! <3 :)

    1. I switched the linkys because of the cheaper price.

Book Subscriptions Boxes are more expensive compared to non-book themed boxes. If I had the extra money, I would test out one of the boxes for a few months, but my wallet is really tight right now.

I've ran out bookshelf space a long time ago. I currently have several books and movies in boxes that I want to donate to Salvation Army. I'll be going through a closet of books today to see if there is anything else that I want to donate. I'll be dropping those boxes off tomorrow.

    2. I read your reply to Michelle's comment above, about the prices of the two Linky widgets. I've used Mister Linky's Magical Widget before, and never paid anything. Hmmm.... Is your blog on Wordpress? Maybe that's why. (scratches head, looking mystified) But anyway, whatever saves you money is the best way for you to go, for sure! :)

'Speaking' of money, yeah, some of those boxes can be pretty pricey! What I don't like, in addition to the high prices, is that several of them don't allow you to select the books, but just the genre. Not good!!

      Have a WONDERFUL weekend!!! <3 :)

    3. My blog is hosted on Blogger. It costs extra to get the "thumbnail" version on Mister Linky's Magical Widget. There's a regular link version that is free. I prefer the thumbnails.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, now that I think of it, when I used this widget, I used the free version. It just gives you the link for each participant. And I agree -- the thumbnails are MUCH nicer! :)

  12. Love the new look! I agree some of the subscription boxes can be pricey. Especially if you don't end up liking the book they sent.

    1. One of my fears with subscription boxes is getting an unwanted book.

      Delete
    2. I agree....I wouldn’t want to pay for something that I am not going to read.

      Delete
  13. Yes, the prices can be a bit on the high side, especially if you don't end up liking the book/items you receive. They do have a certain allure, though, in the fun of receiving and opening them.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Nope. I don't subscribe to book boxes. I already purchase and read so much. I think boxes would be counterproductive for me.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Love the layout changes!

My answer is no. I want to because I LOVE (happy) surprises, but I can't ever seem one that would really suit my needs. Also, they are expensive. I never pay full price for books (e or physical), so it's a little hard to commit to any of them.

    1. Thanks! It took me around 36 hours to redesign the blog. Time consuming, but worth it in my opinion. Books can be expensive. I still buy a few new hardback books (James Patterson, Stephen King, etc.), the rest I buy at thrift stores, or I'll try to get a review copy from the publisher.
