Billy's Thoughts:

It wouldn't feel like Christmas without watching at least one holiday cartoon. If you can't find one that you like airing on television, you can easily find one on DVD or Blu-ray. Nickelodeon recently released the DVD title, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Christmas, featuring 3 action-packed episodes from the 2003 TMNT animated series.

The TMNT seemed to be finished on the television until 4Kids Entertainment, and Mirage Studios launched a the second animated series for the franchise. The 2003 version dropped the slapstick of the 80s' cartoon and followed more closely to the original comic books. The series lasted for seven seasons (with a couple title changes) and one TV-movie. During that time there were many single-disc (three to five episode) DVD releases and three season sets (Season 1 & 2 were split into two 2-disc releases and season 4 had a two-disc set, though several episodes were missing).

Nickelodeon bought the franchise in 2009 and has successfully launched a third series (this time using computer-animation).  Earlier this year, Nickelodeon began re-releasing the 2003 to DVD, which includes the TMNT: Cowabunga Christmas!

The episodes on this release include:

Christmas Aliens (Season 3: Episode 13) - While Master Splinter and the turtles get the lair ready for Christmas, Michelangelo, along with a stray kitten, come across the Purple Dragons, whom are planning on stealing toys that were supposed to go to an orphanage. Michelangelo must stop the Purple Dragon's plans and get home in time for the Christmas party.

The Way of Invisibility (Season 1: Episode 7) - After Casey Jones crashes their lair, Raphael takes to the streets where they encounter the Purple Dragons and the Foot Tech Ninjas. Hun, the leader of the Purple Dragons, kidnaps Raphael, so Casey must find away to save him.

Fallen Angel (Season 1: Episode 8) - A young girl, Angel, from Casey's neighborhood is trying to join the Purple Dragons. Despite Casey's warnings to her, Angel is recruited, and he must save her from the gang's clutches.

Overall, the Christmas Aliens episode is a cute "holiday themed" TMNT episode to watch around the holidays. The other two episodes are also great, but they're just random episodes that have nothing to do with Christmas in anyway. Nevertheless, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Christmas! would still make a wonderful stocking stuffer for any TMNT fan, young or old.
