Growing up in the 1980s, one of my favorite animated programs was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Of course I had about every TMNT toy imaginable. As an adult, I have become nostalgic, resulting in me once again becoming a fan of the TMNT franchise. It has been just over 30 years since the first issue of the TMNT comics was published by the series' creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Larid and the franchise is still going strong with this summer's blockbuster reboot movie and the new animated incarnation that is currently airing on Nickelodeon.
Released during the summer was the first-ever coffee book for the franchise, titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History. The book is written by Andrew Farago and is published by Insight Editions. At nearly 200 pages, this coffee book details the complete history of TMNT franchise - from the early b&w beginnings at Mirage Studios to the Michael Bay-produced CGI live-action reboot. The book features illustrations, comic book covers and other dazzling TMNT images.
I have to mention that I have never a fan of coffee books, well, until I read the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History! It all kicks off with a forward by co-creator Peter Laird, followed by nineteen well-written chapters detailing the last 30 years of the franchise. Though I know the '80s cartoon was based on the comic books, I didn't know too much about the humble beginnings. Overall, I have enjoyed reading the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History and I highly recommend it to other TMNT fans.
