I recall having a foreign exchange student during my high school years that was from Germany. When she arrived, she didn't know very much English and nobody else, including the teachers, knew how to speak German. In this situation, it would have been nice to be fluent in the language.
The Pimsleur approach was created by Dr. Paul Pimsleur, who first released the program in 1963 and later unveiled it to the Harvard community in 1980. The program doesn't involve the use of textbooks or software, but instead it only involves listening to audio CDs. Our brains are already pre-wired to learn a new language and all you have to do is let your brain absorb the language. Many have people have purchased the program over the years, including the FBI.
The "Gold Edition" of the courses features 30 units (courses) on 16 CDs. Each unit is 30 minutes in length. All you have to do is listen to one course (unit) every day, though if you don't grasp the language just yet, feel free to repeat the course the next day and so on and so on until you have learned the language.
The Pimsleur Approach German 1 is an introductory course, helping you learn the basics of the language and how to say specific phrases that you might use if you are on vacation in Germany or if you run into a German on vacation in the United States. In the first few lessons, you 'll learn how to introduce yourself and ask for directions (or how to give directions). So basically, you'll learn how to have a conversation in German. Overall, the Pimsleur Approach German 1 is a fast and easy way to learn the language. I've always had a hard time learning other languages, but I'm able to remember words and phrases easier by using this program.
