Review:

When most people hear about an animated cat, they probably think of Garfield, but there was another cat on the airwaves in the 1980s called Heathcliff, based on the comic strip of the same name. The smart-talking cat debuted in a short animated series from 1980-1982, but returned in an all-new series in 1984-1988 with a total of 86 episodes, which featured an 11-minute Heathcliff adventure and an 11-minute The Catillac Cats episode.

Mill Creek Entertainment recently released Heathcliff: Season One, Volume Two featuring 33 episodes on a 3-disc set.

The episodes are:
  1. Spikes Slave/ Scaredy Cats
  2. Gopher Broke/ A Camping We Will Go
  3. Where There's an Ill, There's a Way / Yes Sewer That's my Baby
  4. Soap Box Derby / A Better Mousetrap
  5. Bamboo Island / Superhero Mungo
  6. Butter Up! / Mungo Gets No Respect
  7. Sonya's Nephew / Dr. Mousetus
  8. Cat Food for Thought / Going South
  9. Phantom of the Garbage / Junkyard Flood
  10. Trombone Terror / The Other Woman
  11. Pop on Parole / The Babysitters
  12. The Siamese Twins / The Mungo Mash
  13. Copa-ca-Heathcliff / Leroy's in Love
  14. Used Pets / Search for a Star
  15. An Officer and an Alley-Cat / Hector Spector
  16. Service with a Smile / Junk Food
  17. Boom Boom Pussini / Beach Blanket Mungo
  18. Sealand Mania / Riff Raff the Gourmet
  19. The Super M.A.C. Menace / Journey to the Center of the Earth
  20. Heathcliff Reforms / Prehysteric Riff Raff

  22. Flying High / Debutante Ball
  23. Heathcliff's Surprise / The Big Break In
  24. The Catfather / The Big Swipe

  31. Raiders of the Lost Cat / Mungo Lays an Egg
  32. The Home Wrecker / In Search of Catlantis
  33. Star of Tomeow-meow / Soccer Anyone?
Long before Garfield debuted in comic strips, Heathcliff was the only fat cat around. Though the comic strips are still being made, Heathcliff isn't in the public eye anymore, but this may change with the planned CGI/live action feature film starring Frank Welker as the voice of Heathcliff, which I find a bit odd as he is the current voice of Garfield. Heathcliff is one of those many '80s cartoons that would have never made it past a few episodes if it aired today, especially with the cartoon violence and suggestive adult themes. It may be nearly thirty years old, but Heathcliff still holds up well and can be laugh-out-loud funny at times. I only wish the episodes were remastered, but I'm not complaining too much about the picture quality. Overall, Heathcliff: Season One, Volume Two is a nolgastic blast to watch!
