Sunday Post - John Sandford, Ultraman, and The Girl Who . . .

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Evening, Everyone!

What Am I Reading?

Reading wasn't exactly a top priority for me last week. Thanks to the spring weather arriving early, my allergies kicked in, which has put a strain on my eyes. Someone recommended to me to take a Vitamin A supplement which I started taking yesterday.

One Wednesday, I had to help move and install a new washing machine and dryer for my parents, so my back is a little store for it. Since the weather is warmer, my mother and I will begin going though my grandmother's belongs in the storage unit. Throwing stuff away and donating other things. We're not getting rid of everything.

This week, I finally going to read The Chill by Scott Carson. I would do this last week but at the last minute I had to read an eBook for a book tour I had forgotten about. However, before The Chill, I will read The Girl Who Loved Twice by David Lagercrantz as I need to return the book to the library by the March 11th.

I'm reading Moonraker by Iran Fleming on my Kindle. Then I'll be reading Diamonds Are Forever, followed by other 007 novels.

But when a malevolent spirit begins haunting him, Alex must accept his unwanted psychic powers and work with his best friend, his paranormal investigator cousin, and two friendly spirits to solve the mystery of the bones in the wall and put the vicious ghost to rest. If he fails, he’ll lose his family and friends to a gruesome fate.

"An inventive, fast-paced tale brimming with chills, thrills, and heart. Perfect for fans of Lockwood & Co."
Henry H. Neff, author of The Tapestry series

It's been a busy week, so I almost completely forgot about reading Ghost Hunters: Bones in the Wall until yesterday. I spent the majority of my morning reading this book while sipping on a cup of coffee.

Like most books I've been reading lately, I didn't read the blurb. I only signed up to review the book based on its cover, which I thought the plot was going to be an adult horror story. However upon reading, I quickly learned this a middle school story. (FYI: I do like reading kids' books!)

Ghost Hunters centers around Alex, a twelve-year-old who gets a "sixth sense" after being in a horrible car accident. He now can see and communicate with the dead. With the help of his best friend, Jason, and his weird cousin, Hannah, Alex must solve a mystery and stop a vengeful ghost.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Ghost Hunters: Bones in the Wall. It's a fast-paced, well-written story with likable characters. The story has a nice Goosebumps vibe! Readers of all ages will have a blast reading it.

Review - Pokergeist by Michael Phillip Cash

*This is a sponsored review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Available at AMAZON and Barnes & Noble.

About the Book

Sometimes life, as well as death, is about second chances. Luckless Telly Martin doesn't have a clue. An awful gambler trying to scrape by as a professional poker player, he becomes the protégé of world-famous poker champion Clutch Henderson. The only catch…Clutch is a ghost. Telly and Clutch must navigate the seedy gambling underbelly of Las Vegas learning to trust each other in order to win the elusive International Series of Poker, repair their shattered personal relationships and find redemption in this life and the hereafter.

My Review

Pokergeist has one of the coolest covers I have seen in recent years. It reminds of the episode of the '80s Twilight Zone titled "Dealer's Choice" starring Morgan Freeman.

Just under 250 pages, Pokergeist, the fourth book in A Haunting on Long Island Series, was a quick read for me yesterday afternoon. It centers around Telly Martin who wants to be a professional poker player. However, there's one small problem - he's a horrible gambler! Well, that is until he gets Clutch, who happens to be a ghost, to help him become a great poker player. Between the duo, they make their way to the fictional International Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas.

I like to point out that Pokergeist isn't a horror novel by any means. It's a comedy that just happens to have a ghost character. It's well-written with lively dialogue. I liked all the characters except for Telly's girlfriend, Gretchen. Don't ask me why as I don't have an answer. I just didn't like the character. Besides that small nitpick, I enjoyed reading Pokergeist.
